Dreyer and Reinbold Racing Running Santino Ferrucci, Sage Karam in 2022 Indy 500

Despite still being a part-time IndyCar team, Dreyer and Reinbold will return to next May’s Indy 500 with one of the strongest two-driver lineups in the field, in terms of 2021 results.

Alongside Meyer Shank Racing (winner Helio Castroneves and 3rd-place Simon Pagenaud), DRR will be the only other team with two top-7 finishers. IndyStar has learned the team has signed former Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver Santino Ferrucci (6th-place a year ago) of Woodbury, CT  as well as the team’s longtime driver Sage Karam (7th in 2021), according to a source.

Ferrucci’s addition comes after the 23-year-old finished tops among his RLL teammates last year, which included  defending champ Takuma Sato and series veteran Graham Rahal. Ferrucci ran a five-race stint with RLL in 2021 in IndyCar as the team mulled over its options for its second and third drivers alongside Rahal before ultimately signing Jack Harvey and Christian Lundgaard. Ferrucci also ran a part-time NASCAR Xfinity series schedule a year ago, and it’s unclear whether that will continue in 2022.

Over three Indy 500s in his young career, Ferrucci has finished no worse than 7th and landed 4th in 2020 with Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan.

“Nothing is better than being a part of a team that has such a high work ethic,” Ferrucci said in a release. “The team’s attention to detail is comparable to top teams in the series.”
