How Did New England Drivers Do At Bristol?

In a stunning upset on Thursday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, rookie Chandler Smith stole a victory from reigning NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Sheldon Creed. Smith clinched a spot in the Round of 8 of the Playoffs and eliminated Todd Gilliland from the post season.

Milford, CT’s Doug Coby, a champion NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver, came in a respectable 12th place in his first outing in the NASCAR Truck Series.  Even after a spin in the early going of that race, Parker Kligerman of Westport, CT ended his night in 21st position.  Kligerman is also a color man on various NASCAR TV broadcasts.
On Saturday AJ Allmendinger won the Xfinity 300 race.  Not so fortunate was Brett Moffitt who suffered a wreck on the ninth lap and ended up 40th.  Moffitt drives a Chevy for Cape Cod’s Chris Out.  Our is a real estate developer who resides in Harwich, MA.
Here’s what happened in Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup race at Bristol, TN.  Kyle Larson held off Kevin Harvick to take the win. Middletown, CT’s Joey Logano came 11th, Berlin, CT’s Ryan Preece finished 17th, Corey LaJoie placed 26th.  Corey is the son of two-time Xfinity Champion Randy LaJoie who calls Norwalk, CT his hometown.  Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT had an accident in the early going and came in 35th.
Here’s the top 10 in Playoff points following Bristol: Larson, Truex, Jr., Hamlin, Blaney, Kyle Busch, Elliott, Bowman, Bryan, Logano and Keselowski.
