WHITINSVILLE, Mass. — Fresh off what was going to be a strong run at Stafford Motor Speedway last Friday night, the Stan Mertz Racing team spent the weekend scrambling after a motor issue ended that race abruptly for the team. However, as of Monday afternoon, the ship is back on track heading for a special race on Wednesday night.
But it’s a different ship.

Driver Woody Pitkat will compete in the conclusion of the Speed51.TV Modified Madness with the Tri Track Open Modified Series on Wednesday, August 25, but he will do it in a different ride. Norm Perry and the No. 76 Tri Track team have graciously offered their SK Modified car to the Stan Mertz Racing stable for the night to compete in the 100-lap, $10,000 to win race on Wednesday night at Seekonk Speedway.
Pitkat will start from the 14th position in the fifth of six Tri Track events on the schedule.
“Norm and I have been friends since I started to drive for him myself in 2013,” Mertz said. “We have a great friendship and he’s stepped up to the plate and offered for us to use his SK car and we couldn’t be more thankful. An SK car can win at Seekonk. We’re going to pick up the car tonight and get it turned around and ready to go on Wednesday.”
Wednesday’s race day schedule includes one practice session from 5:30-6:10 p.m., and the drop of the green flag in feature racing at 7 p.m. All of the qualifying races were completed on June 30, before a power outage struck the area and postponed the race to this week. For those who can’t make it to the track, the race will air live on Speed51.TV via PPV. For those who have tickets from June 30, those tickets and pit passes will be honored, if you still have them.
