One of those inglorious days, laced with a few bright spots. An 84, a great dinner, and sporadic views of a good race.
By the way, it was 10/10/10 today, something that won’t come along for quite some time……

If you think it’s good news that Hendrick Racing’s Jimmie Johnson came out of his “winning slump” and got back into contention just in the nick of time for the Chase To The Sprint Cup, you’re right.
But as far as NASCAR is concerned, it’s bad news.
Should Johnson win the championship again, the suspense of competition between drivers would be lost, and so would the interest among race fans.

The news is that New Hampshire Motor Speedway will keep its two Sprint Cup races, at least for 2011. While fans and management of NHMS breathed a sigh of relief, it’s still entirely possible that one of the Cup events at the Loudon, NH, track could still move in the near future. Sources reveal that if International Speedway Corp., part of the France family racing empire, had agreed to move its race to late February of next year from this November, O. Bruton Smith of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., would have moved the NHMS spring race to Vegas for the NASCAR Chase To The Nextel Cup finale in a New York Minute. Speculation tells us that the two Cup races at NHMS are not chiseled in stone, especially if attendance continues to fall.

Speculation on whether the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon will be changed continues to surface in the absence of an official notice. Yet the Boston Globe, in a lead story on Page One of the sports section dated Thursday, July 27, claims that NHMS will not lose a Sprint Cup race next year. The author, Mike Vega, cited information to this effect as obtained from an unidentified source inside Speedway Motorsports Inc. Still a number of persistent reports in early July had the June Cup race moving to Kentucky Speedway. So the Globe story flies in the face of a multitude of contradictory news reports from many media sources.

Pocono’s Cup race was won by Denny Hamlin, while Joey Logano had major problems and was taken out. The Connecticut native was really ripped at Kevin Harvick who did the taking out, and a confrontation between the two in the pits occurred.
Things sure can change over three months’ time.
Remember back in March, when Jimmie Johnson was the favorite to win another Cup title?
Well that’s faded, as he and teammate Jeff Gordon are now just a top ten effort.
