Viva Las Vegas! Sprint Cup Series banquet moves to Sin City

Another Bruton Smith special comes to fruition the week that he gets inducted into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame (along with Bobby Labonte). NASCAR and the Las Vegas Convention and Vistiors Authority announced today that the Sprint Cup Series banquet, stationed in New York City’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel since 1981, is moving from the Big Apple to Nevada’s largest city, beginning this year. Though announced, both sides still have to finalize some details of the agreement. The LVCVA reportedly will pay NASCAR an amount between $500,000 and $1 million per year to host the banquet.

State Rep. Rocky Adkins to sponsor bill to help attract NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2009)–Gov. Steve Beshear today voiced his support for an amendment to the Kentucky Tourism Development Act to add a new eligible category of so-called “legacy expansion” projects.

At a Capitol news conference, Gov. Beshear and bill sponsor House Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins were joined by representatives of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. to discuss the positive impact this legislation would have on the future of motorsports in Kentucky.

Bruton Smith, chairman and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., owner of Kentucky Speedway, and Jerry Carroll, consultant to Speedway Motorsports, Inc. said today that passage of this legislation would put Kentucky in position to host the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, that sanctioning body’s top racing series.

TV Times – SPEED to Show Whelen Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge

The SPEED channel is set to televise four hours of the Whelen Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge on Jan. 18 at noon and Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. The event was held the first weekend in January. Recently-crowned NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Johnny Benson heads a list of six NASCAR drivers set to slide into bobsleds this weekend. Todd Bodine, Joey Logano, Brian Loftin, Philip Morris and Boris Said will round out the NASCAR contingent vs the NHRA crowd. Lou Modestino's TV Times

The Bodine Bobsled Challenge will see NASCAR drivers pilot specially-made bobsleds down the track in Lake Placid’s Olympic Sports Complex, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics. In Race 1, all the drivers will be compete against the clock as they take two runs down the track. Race 2 will feature head-to-head racing between NASCAR and NHRA drivers, with the winner from each division set to square off in the final heat for bragging rights. The NHRA will be represented in the challenge by POWERade Pro Stock Champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Top Fuel drivers Morgan Lucas, JR Todd, and Bob Vandergriff.
