TV Times - Rumblings Around the Sprint Cup Schedule for 2011 and Beyond

Lou Modestino's TV TimesSpeculation on whether the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon will be changed continues to surface in the absence of an official notice. Yet the Boston Globe, in a lead story on Page One of the sports section dated Thursday, July 27, claims that NHMS will not lose a Sprint Cup race next year. The author, Mike Vega, cited information to this effect as obtained from an unidentified source inside Speedway Motorsports Inc. Still a number of persistent reports in early July had the June Cup race moving to Kentucky Speedway. So the Globe story flies in the face of a multitude of contradictory news reports from many media sources.

TV Times - McMurray's Key to Brickyard Win is Good Chemistry

Lou Modestino's TV TimesNice going by Jamie McMurray for posting the win at IMS in the Brickyard 400! Kevin Harvick was next, then Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart. As it currently stands, Harvick still leads the point chase over Jeff Gordon by -184. But both Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have seen much better days than this one.

McMurray attributed his win to good chemistry between himself and his crew, winning the Daytona 500 back in February and now the Brickyard 400 with Chip Ganassi. On the flip side of the Ganassi organization however, Juan Pablo Montoya experienced major problems in the Brickyard go-around after starting from the pole.

Things are getting worse on the Jeremy Mayfield/NASCAR situation. We’ve seen reports that Mayfield flunked another NASCAR drug test and an accusation by his stepmother who claims to have seen him use meth, many times over the years. She even filed an affidavit spelling all this out on July 15. Mayfield counters that his stepmother is lying and is getting paid by NASCAR. Jeremy is also suing her for her statements and on other family issues such as the death of his father that was ruled a suicide. The NASCAR driver/team owner claims that his stepmother is responsible for his father’s death.

Goodyear developing bigger tire; tests planned for Indy

Goodyear is looking at drastic changes to improve its racing tire. According to company officials, Goodyear is already developing a tire that is one to two inches wider and taller than the current tire that teams use. The purpose for forming the bigger tire is to give the new COTs better grip on the racetrack. The COT has caused the tires to have worse grip than on the older racecars. The cars also have less downforce than before, creating sizeable handling problems, especially on bigger racetracks.
