Former officials sues NASCAR over harassment claims

A former racing official is suing NASCAR for $250 million, alleging racial and sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination.

Mauricia Grant, who is black, worked as a technical inspector responsible for certifying cars in NASCAR’s second-tier Nationwide Series from January 2005 until she was fired last October.

Sprint Cup Racing on Fox concluded its 2008 campaign with a 4.2/10 for the race from Dover that Sunday to rank as the top-rated event for the weekend. Last year’s race which was rained-out and rescheduled on a Monday afternoon posted a 2.2/7 and was not included in the 2007 season average. For the 2008 season, Sprint Cup racing averaged a 5.2/11 in the meters for 13 races, flat with last year’s average for just 12 races. This report came from the Fox PR office.

Going into that Sunday’s Best Buy 400 at Dover, Fox’s 12 NASCAR Cup features were up an average of five percent — which the network said translates to an average of 9.65 million viewers per race, compared to 9.3 million last year. That came from StockCarGazette.com. The ratings up tick is no surprise as many fans are not going to the races this year and are catching them on the tube.
