I hope you and yours had a good weekend, and that you said “thank you” and “I love you” to your mom if you were able to.
There might be duplicates of this edition for some of you who receive the e-mail version … the Monday morning edition usually is larger than the rest of the week. I am actively researching some other mailing list options. Hopefully I can find a better solution.
We are remembering Adam Petty today… we lost him eight years ago.
Here’s the latest NASCAR and ARCA stock car racing news in today’s Stock Car Gazette.
Saturday’s Richmond race provided almost enough excitement to cover for the lack thereof in a few other races this season. The first half of the race did not as much follow that script, as Denny Hamlin led nearly every lap and there were few cautions.
Just past the race’s 2nd half, on lap 233, 11 cars, including those of Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, and Juan Pablo Montoya were involved in a crash, bringing out a red flag. Despite those big names being taken out of the race, the only three in the whole race that mattered were Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Well, it’s Friday, when there’s usually a time of great rejoicing about 5:00 PM, no matter what time zone you might be in … the Cup and Nationwide guys are at Darlington, the Trucks are off, and the ARCA RE/MAX series is racing at my home track, the Kentucky Speedway.
Check out the latest racing notes and news right here in the Stock Car Gazette.
This week the NASCAR teams are racing at Darlington.
Let’s begin with testing this year. Seven-time winner Jeff Gordon, two-time winner Greg Biffle and Ryan Newman had good things to say about their testing and the new track surface.
“The basic transitions, the banking and the walls haven’t changed,” said seven-time Darlington winner Jeff Gordon. “The bumps are gone, the grip level is high and it’s awesome, they did a great job.”
“I’m happy with the new surface, they have done a nice job, said two-time Darlington winner Greg Biffle. “There are no bumps or dips anywhere that we have noticed; I was pretty impressed with how smooth it was. The car was really stable and I was happy with the first few laps.”
