TV Times - American Le Mans Series Bucks NASCAR’s Declining Attendance Trends

TV Times, by Lou Modestino   In an era where television ratings and attendance at many sporting events are showing declines, the American Le Mans Series is moving the needle appreciably. Any way you cut it or count it, attendance and television viewing for the Series is up significantly. Attendance at American Le Mans Series first three rounds is averaging more than 106,000 per race while television viewers increased more than four and a half fold. The attendance mark is a 3.2 percent increase over the same period last year. Reported estimated attendances this season are Sebring 170,000; St. Petersburg 45,000; and Long Beach 105,000. Sunday attendances for the IRL races at St. Petersburg and Long Beach are not taken into account.

Lori Hamilton: Leading the Charge On and Off the Track

The loss of a loved one can bring the best and the worst out of someone, especially when that loved is as much of a presence as Bobby Hamilton was. Hamilton was never what one would call a superstar, but he did finish his Sprint Cup career with four wins and one top-10 finish in the points. He was the first driver to win in the #43 STP car after Richard Petty retired and won a Craftsman Truck Series championship in 2004, driving for and owning his own multi-truck team.

Smoke Claims first Talladega Nationwide Win

Tony Stewart won from the pole in the NASCAR Nationwide series Aarons 312 at the Talladega Superspeedway. The win marked the first time in his career that Stewart has won at the Alabama facility.
