Dale Jarrett To Retire From Full-Time Competition

HICKORY, N.C., Oct. 12, 2007 — Dale Jarrett, the 1999 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, today announced he would retire from full-time competition in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series at the conclusion of the 2007 NASCAR season. While Jarrett is retiring from full-time competition, he will compete in six races during the 2008 season, including the season-opening Daytona 500.

TV Times - Kansas Ratings 17 Percent Down From ‘06

ABC earned an overnight Nielsen Media Research rating of 2.8 for the 2 to 6 p.m. portion of Sunday’s LifeLock 400 Nextel Cup race at Kansas Speedway, Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Daily reports along with the Jayski.com webpage.

The rating is 17.6 percent lower than the 3.4 NBC earned when it aired the Kansas race in 2006. Because of the rain delays in Sunday’s race, ABC shifted coverage to its ESPN2 channel, where it earned a 2.1, according to the Daily. Anytime there’s a rain delay and or a channel change the viewers will turn on something else or just shut off the TV.

Reutimann To Replace Jarrett In No. 44 Toyota

Zephyrhills’ David Reutimann has agreed to a new contract with Michael Waltrip Racing that will again allow him to compete full time in both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series, although he’ll be in a different Cup car after the first part of the year.

Reutimann confirmed Thursday that he’ll move from the No. 00 Toyota into the UPS-sponsored No. 44 Toyota after the first five races, replacing 1999 Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett, who is cutting back to a limited schedule. Jarrett, 50, will run the first five races and the Nextel All-Star Challenge.

DJ makes his announcement about his ‘08 Sprint Cup schedule today at 12:45.

It’s rumored that he’s supposed to be in the #44 for the first 6 races, then step out either completely or share it with another driver/drivers.

Rumors for those other drivers include David Reutimann and Jeremy Mayfield at the moment.
