Nationwide Insurance to be Sponsor of No. 2 series

NASCAR announced Wednesday that Nationwide Insurance will become title sponsor of the NASCAR Nationwide Series, replacing Anheuser-Busch’s Busch brand at the start of the 2008 season. Nationwide Insurance will also become the official auto, home and life insurance provider of NASCAR

Haas CNC To Shuffle Lineup After Signing Riggs For ‘08

Haas CNC Racing on Wednesday announced that the team has signed Scott Riggs for the 2008 Sprint Cup season.

The car Riggs will drive next season — No. 66 or No. 70 — will be determined at a later date. Jeff Green currently drives the No. 66, while Johnny Sauter is in the No. 70. Both drivers will be evaluated during the final seven races before Haas CNC makes a decision on its ‘08 lineup.

IndyCar Champ Franchitti Inks Sprint Cup Deal With Chip Ganassi Racing

Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates on Wednesday announced reigning Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti has signed a multi-year deal with the organization to compete in the Sprint Cup Series, beginning in 2008.

TV Times: Dover Ratings Up… Network TV Is The Reason

The Dover Cup ratings were up! ABC/ESPN tells that ABC’s broadcast of Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Dover International Speedway earned a 3.5 national rating from Nielsen Media Research. The network says the race was seen by 3,911,057 households, a 15 percent increase over 2006, when the race was carried by the TNT cable station, and 5,498,209 viewers, an increase of 17 percent over last season. It’s obvious that airing a Cup race on network TV rather than cable is a big help.
