Childress’ plans for fourth Cup car on hold until 2009

by Mike Irwin ~ September 26th, 2007 @ 2:05 pm

Owner came away empty-handed from latest hunting trip

Richard Childress recently spent 10 days in the mountains of Mongolia, stalking the biggest wild sheep in the world. The he returned home to chase another quarry — a fourth car for his Nextel Cup organization.

Both will have to wait. Childress, a renowned hunter who has several of his kills on display in the museum of his Welcome, N.C., shop, never got a shot at the trophy sheep he wanted, and plans to return to Mongolia to try again. He hasn’t quite found the right combination for a fourth car, either, so any expansion will likely be on hold until 2009.

TV Times - New Hampshire TV Ratings Topped By GOLF?!??

by Lou Modestino ~ September 24th, 2007 @ 1:49 pm

Overnight TV Ratings for NHIS had conflicting reports: ABC drew a 3.3 fast national rating for its Sylvania 300 telecast Sunday from New Hampshire International Speedway, according to the network.

Households (3,676,000) were up 7 percent from last year when the race was shown on cable (TNT) according to SceneDaily.com.

Coverage of the first leg of the Chase For the Nextel Cup drew a surprisingly low numbers on Sunday afternoon. The Sylvania 300 drew a 2.8 overnight on ABC; there is no comparison to last year’s numbers available because the 2006 race aired on cable on TNT with a 3.0 cable rating with about 5 million viewers). The 2.8 is not only the lowest overnight for a regularly scheduled Nextel Cup race this season (on broadcast or cable), but it is also the lowest overnight for NASCAR on network television since at least 2004. The 2.8 rating put NASCAR behind NFL telecasts on FOX and CBS, and behind the final round of the Tour Championship on NBC, the final leg of the PGA Tour Playoffs. Last year, eight Chase for the Cup races on NBC averaged a 4.0 overnight rating.

Prior to Sunday, no Chase for the Cup race on network television had drawn less than a 3.4 overnight. This report came from sportsmediawatch/Sports Business Daily and stockcargazette.com on the internet.
