Happy 2008!by Heather Meyer ~ January 2nd, 2008. Filed under: Articles by Heather. |
As we start this new year I’d like to wish everyone a blessed new year.
My family spent the holidays in Daytona Beach enjoying the warmth, seeing the sights without the crowds, and getting plenty of family time.
Other then a few signs to be changed from Pepsi to Coca Cola and Nextel to Sprint, everything looked ready to go for testing.
While in Daytona Beach, we could hear engines revving around the track. No, it wasn’t Cup cars, but karts.
The people from Big South Karting, Karting Scene, and the karting officials were wonderful sharing their love for their series with my kids and I.
For those Dale Jr fans, all the NASCAR stores were loaded with the new merchandise, as well as Daytona 500 50th anniversary items, too.
While on vacation, I received an email from our Editor in Chief, Mike Irwin, asking us for 5 things for the upcoming year. Well, that got me to thinking (scary, I know).
So how many times are we going to slip and call it the Nextel Cup series, and not Sprint Cup… or Busch Series instead of Nationwide Series?
Will the Gibbs teams remember they are in Toyotas now, and not Chevys?
Dale Jr can still thank Tony Jr., but will he remember it’s Hendrick now, and there’s no Bud on the car (or IN the car, you crazy mutants)?
Who will be locked into the top 35 come Bristol?
Will all the cars have full time funding, since it’s already the first of January, and some teams are still looking?
Are things more even with the Car of Today being used full time this year?
For those of you going to the Gatorade Duels on Valentine’s Day, remember to play the scratch game and see if you might win this Corvette.

Details about the contest are on www.DaytonaInternatioalSpeedway.com.
As I close this, I’d like to ask all to do a random act of kindness throughout the year. It’s amazing what you get in return.
Also drive with care and courtesy of others around you. Not everyone has a spotter in their ear telling them if it’s clear or not.
