Yes, He REALLY Said That-James Hylton, on looking for a Daytona 500 ride after almost making the field last February. “As far as (2007) went, I think things got a little out of hand with all that. They (media) were writing the story not because I was the greatest driver that ever showed up. It was just hard for a lot of people to believe a 72-year-old man could drive a race car. Don’t get me wrong: I enjoyed my 15 minutes of fame.” This insight came from the Valvoline Track Talk News letter.
Let’s see what’s on the tube this week as 2007 comes to a close. On Monday, ESPN CL offers the NHRA Winternationals from Pomona, CA at 11 a.m. Tuesday’s highlights are more NHRA on ESPN CL only this time from Firebird Raceway in Phoenix at 11 a.m. ESPN CL comes back at 10 p.m. with the Russo & Steele Car Auction from Monterey, CA. On Wednesday Speed airs more SCCA Runoffs from Topeka, KS at noon while Speed returns with two German Touring Car Series events from the EuroSpeedway in German and Brands Hatch at 2 and 3 p.m. Thursday goes like this starting at noon it’s the A1 GP from Zhuhai, China at noon on Speed. Stick with Speed for the 2 p.m. offering of the Australian V8 Super Cars from the Northern Territory of Australia at 2 p.m. followed by the same series event held in Sidney, Australia.
Friday offers an 8 p.m. of GET BACK TO DIRT on Speed from Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Texas while the Outdoor Channel airs FIM MotoX action at 8:30 p.m. For Saturday it’s more from Speedway at noon with the German Touring Car Series event from Nuremberg, German followed by more Australian V8 Super Cars from Sidney, Australia. Sunday’s highlights are the noon airing of the Summer Shootout from Lowes(Charlotte, NC) at noon while the Speed Report goes at 7 p.m. both of which are on Speed.(end)

We have an update from John Kernan, who left Sirius because of a family issue and will be residing in Chicago for 2008. He will be working on selected NHRA races for ESPN, and The Daly Planet merely suggested that he would be a nice fit for the ESPN Infield Studio in 2008 at Daytona. We offered that because one of the regulars on the ESPN NASCAR team will not be returning for the 2008 season. More news on that after the holiday break…stay tuned.

I hope that Kernan stays in NHRA and away from anything on Sirius. He would not be a “nice fit”.

John Kernan had the best show on Sirius. It’s too bad he won’t be on the radio or involved with NASCAR.
