The First Car of Tomorrowby Mike Irwin ~ December 14th, 2007. Filed under: Other Sites' Notes. |
One of the most pervasive stories over the last couple years has been the change from the existing Nextel Cup car to the Car of Tomorrow. The changeover has been a significant undertaking for multi-car teams like Hendrick, Roush, and Gibbs. But it’s not the first. Before any of these teams fielded their first Winston Cup entry, there was another ‘Car of Tomorrow’ conversion. This was the car of 1981 – the new downsized 110” wheelbase Grand National Winston Cup stock car. The downsize was a move by NASCAR to mirror the factories’ migration to a smaller production car.
