Champion’s Week Schedule
Jimmie Johnson knows what to expect this week. After all, the driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet got to experience the glitz and the glamour of the Big Apple last year when he won his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship. This year, he’s back for more. Johnson is returning to the New York City spotlight – and the main stage of the national media – following his successful 2007 defense of his championship and will be the focal point as NASCAR celebrates its 27th annual Champions Week. “Coming down the steps (of the Waldorf=Astoria) started bringing back some memories of last year,” said Johnson, who became the first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series repeat champion since Jeff Gordon won back to back championships in 1997-98. “The thing I really want to do this year is savor every moment, because before I knew it last year, it was all gone and we were on our way back to North Carolina and the banquet was over. And, I wanted to enjoy those moments a little bit longer.” Johnson will be joined in this week’s celebration by the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series top 10 drivers, as well as the champions of NASCAR’s national and regional series. A busy week of national media appearances and activities will culminate with Johnson’s official coronation during Friday night’s awards ceremony.

A Legend in Denim Honors a Legend in Racing with New Limited Edition Collection
Wrangler® Commemorates Dale Earnhardt’s Life in the Fast Lane

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Nov. 27, 2007) – The Wrangler® brand’s original “One Tough Customer” is being honored by the denim icon in a new line of limited edition jeans, tees, and hats. Fueled with the style and spirit of “The Intimidator,” the new Dale Earnhardt Collection by WranglerTM will be available in select Wal-Mart stores for a limited time only beginning in late November.

The line pays tribute to the seven-time Winston Cup champion’s legendary life and was created as part of the longstanding relationship between Wrangler® and the Earnhardt family. The brand was the primary sponsor of Dale and the famed yellow-and-blue “Wrangler Jean Machine” from 1981 to 1987. The Wrangler-Earnhardt legacy resumed in 2004 with the Wrangler® logo once again appearing on an Earnhardt driven car.

“Just as Dale Jr. perfectly fits the new generation of Wrangler® today, Dale Earnhardt truly personified the brand and the “One Tough Customer” marketing campaign in the 1980s,” said Craig Errington, vice president of Wrangler® marketing. “This commemorative collection was developed to reflect the respect and admiration we continue to have for Dale and to honor the history we’ve shared with the Earnhardt family, and his fans, for more than two decades.”

Inspired by the Wrangler® jeans Dale himself wore, the Dale Earnhardt Collection by Wrangler® is made with the same trusted comfort and durability for which the brand has always been known. The jeans are racing inspired with a classic fit offered in “Intimidator Black” and “#3 Indigo,” both featuring custom #3 details, checkered flag interior pockets, and a Dale signature patch. The tees and hats utilize famous racecar color schemes, showcasing vintage Wrangler® images and Dale’s celebrated racecar, signature and the famous #3. Each piece of the line is value-priced at less than $20. For more information or to locate a retailer near you, visit www.wrangler.com/welcome/dale or call 1.888.784.8571.

Airings, Ratings Climb for Hooters Pro Cup Broadcasts
By Paul Warner
Tuesday, November 27, 2007 3:26:00 PM

Series receives 1,000 hours of TV time during 2007 season

Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The on-track action of the Hooters Pro Cup Series (HPCS) in 2007 has been well documented. Car counts reached a new high, as did the level of competition. But the growth wasn’t just limited to the racetrack.

The HPCS also saw double-digit gains in ratings on SPEED during the 2007 season.

The ratings for the Wednesday airing increased by 12% over last year’s numbers, and the Friday airing saw a 17% increase. For the season, the gross ratings improved 14% over the 2006 numbers.

“The numbers are encouraging,” said Gene Cox, USAR President. “Anytime drivers and sponsors have more people watching, it’s a benefit to everyone in the series.”

But the broadcast growth wasn’t just limited to the SPEED airings.

Want Job And Career Security? You Won’t Find It In Racing
It’s a big piece of the American Dream puzzle, but lately, job layoffs, company and plant closings across the country have made employment harder to hold on to. Unlike the days of our parents, people rarely work for a company their whole careers anymore.

Fixing NASCAR: Top 35 Rule by Pete Pistone
Those who believe NASCAR caters more to sponsors and its business partners rather than the fans need to look no further than the controversial Top 35 rule, which was implemented last season.

However I am one of the few who is not excited about Earnhardt Jr. driving for HMS in 2008.

NASCAR Fans Continue To Turn Off The TV
With the NASCAR season over, television ratings are now being calculated for the year as a whole. Unfortunately for NASCAR and its television partners, ratings look to be down. But what really is the cause for the decline in ratings? Is it the type of racing we saw this season, was it due to the Hendrick Motorsports dominance, or are fans really fed up with the type of television coverage we saw this season?
