Jimmy Elledge Earns Crew Chief Of Race
With the spotlight focused on the 12 drivers fighting for a Nextel Cup Championship, most would be excused for neglecting the 31 other cars battling it out in their own right. Heading to the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Pep Boys Auto 500, Jimmy Elledge and the No. 41 Target / Breast Cancer Awareness team, were looking to impress and to improve on their top 10 finish from the season’s first race at the 1.5 mile track. Being the home track of team driver Reed Sorenson also gave more reason for the team to shoot for a good performance. Elledge and his team did not disappoint, fighting for 329 laps and avoiding various on-track dilemmas. Throughout the race, Elledge was able to plot a calculated path for Sorenson, which included various well-timed strategic calls, to finish the afternoon at Atlanta with a top five finish. For his calculated display and strategic call strategy, Elledge was awarded the WYPALL* Wipers Crew Chief of the Race.

Goodyear likely to return to Atlanta for more testing: Goodyear likely will have to return to Atlanta next January to select a different tire than the one Nextel Cup teams tested on Monday and Tuesday. Some teams have worn their tires out before the end of a fuel run, which is about 50-55 laps. “We’re pretty comfortable with what we’ve seen,” said Goodyear’s Greg Stucker. “[But] it appears the setup on the car of tomorrow is still pretty aggressive from a wear perspective. We’ll probably test again and try … to get more wear resistant. I think everybody is comfortable with the level of grip they have. Our target is a gas stop [for wear], and not everybody is able to get there right now.” Goodyear has at least two more tire tests left this year. It will test Nov. 5 at California with Hendrick Motorsports and David Green as the driver. It also will test Dec. 11-12 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with teams to be determined.(SceneDaily.com)(10-31-2007)

Atlanta the Latest Chapter in Epic Truck Series Title Fight
10-30-2007 | TruckSeries.com Report
Atlanta the Latest Chapter in Epic Title Fight Epic. That’s the best way to describe the incredible NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship point battle that has evolved since the series visited Daytona back in February. With only three races remaining in 2007 after the Hampton, Georgia visit, No. 33 Chevrolet driver Ron Hornaday, Jr. and Mike Skinner in the No. 5 Toyota continued to test their teams and each other at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Skinner, the undisputed king of Bud Pole qualifying this year, would qualify on the outside front row. But it was Ron Hornaday that edged by Skinner to capture his first Bud Pole award this season. The stage was set – Hornaday on the pole and Skinner out front by eleven points separating the championship contenders.
