Letarte Crew Chief Of Race
Steve Letarte and the No. 24 Dupont Chevrolet crew, headed to Lowe’s Motor Speedway with clear direction and strategy. Letarte’s plan was to keep his driver, Jeff Gordon, at the front of the pack to avoid any possible incident. Starting fourth on the grid for the Bank of America 500 enabled Letarte and Gordon to stay with front-runners as planned from the green flag. As other championship contenders changed strategy mid-race in an effort to catch leaders, Letarte and Gordon held strong. Taking the lead in the closing stages of the race, Gordon was able to hold off several late chargers and take the checkered flag for the team’s sixth win of the season. For his calm and precise race strategy Letarte was awarded the WYPALL* Wipers Crew Chief of the Race.

Dale Jarrett, No. 44 UPS Toyota Camry
Has the announcement last week of your retirement really sunk in yet?
“Yeah, a little bit. It’s definitely going to take some getting used to though. It probably won’t hit me until after the season and then of course a lot more next year. You know, it’s weird. I think when you have a job – whether it’s as a race car driver or whatever you do – if you do it for a long time, you start to envision how it will come to an end, and how and when you might walk away. I think everyone wants to be able to go out on their own terms and have some input into the whole process. But it doesn’t always work out the way you want it to. As I said last week, this was something I had really put a lot of thought into for the last couple months. But then actually coming out and saying it and putting those wheels in motion, so to speak, was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. I’m comfortable with the decision and I’m happy that I was able to go out on my own terms…”

Second Chevy World of Outlaws Team Added for ‘08; Chevy Begins Preparations for Next Season
Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) has announced that the 2006 World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series champion Donny Schatz will join TSR next year in a Chevy-powered entry alongside the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/Chevrolet machine. Additionally, Armor All will sponsor Schatz’s No. 15 Chevy while Parkerstore will remain with Schatz as an associate sponsor.
“The addition of Donny to Tony Stewart Racing is very good for Chevy and will bring even more exposure to our World of Outlaws racing effort for next year,” said Ray Smith, who oversees Chevrolet’s WoO and USAC racing programs. “Donny’s won about 20 percent of the races he raced this year and we look forward to working with him next year.”
With the 2008 season only several months ahead, Chevrolet is already making preparations for supporting both Chevy World of Outlaws entries next year. “We’re planning to do some aero testing and chassis work with both teams before the end of season,” said Smith. “Chevy is committed to doing all we can to help our teams win.”

Winning At Home A Wonderful Thing
10-16-2007 | TruckSeries.com Report
Jon Wood’s 2003 Kroger 200 victory wasn’t a career-defining moment. But winning a few miles from his Stuart, Va., hometown in front of family and friends was sweet for Wood, to say the least. “In terms of career advancement, the effect was minimal,” said Wood. “But personally, you couldn’t have picked a better race track or a more prestigious one. My grandpa raced there and Martinsville’s got a lot of history.” The victory was the most recent of the then 21-year-old Wood’s two series wins. Since rejoining the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on a fulltime basis in July, Wood has rolled up five top-10 finishes – the best a third place, near victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in September.

Hoosier Tire Testing Begins
ARCA RE/MAX Series Drivers to Compete on Short Track Radials in 2008
TOLEDO OH (10-16-07)—The ARCA RE/MAX Series contested the last event of the 2007 season on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean that race teams, series sponsors or officials have time to rest. In fact, Toledo Speedway was bustling with activity less than 24 hours after the conclusion of the Hantz Group 200 presented by Belle Tire ARCA RE/MAX Series race, as several race teams converged on the .5-mile facility to begin testing of the new Hoosier Tire short track radial, which will debut in 2008. From Toledo, Hoosier and ARCA officials traveled to Salem Speedway in Indiana on Tuesday for additional tire tests.
The 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season will mark the introduction of the short track radial tire to the series, which competes each season on a diverse combination of tracks ranging in size from .5-mile to 2.66-miles in length on paved, concrete and dirt surfaces. The short track radial will complement an established superspeedway radial tire program in the series. ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran Justin Allgaier, who finished fourth in the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series national championship point standings with one win, four top-5 and 11 top-10 finishes, served as the primary tester during the two-day session. Eddie Sharp Racing also participated in the test, relying on former Formula One driver Scott Speed, who made his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut at Talladega Superspeedway on October 5th and has announced plans to run the entire ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule for Team Red Bull in 2008.
In order to develop the ARCA short track radial, Hoosier Tire engineers utilized data and performance records of radials which have been raced and tested on different venues in various series. The newly developed ARCA RE/MAX Series short track radial tire will be used on all tracks one mile in length or shorter with the exception of dirt tracks, which will continue to utilize bias ply tires.
Hoosier has participated as a supplier for ARCA sanctioned racing events since 1985, placing the Indiana-based company among the longest-standing participating manufacturer-sponsor relationships in the history of the ARCA RE/MAX Series. The company’s co-founder, Bob Newton, began his association with the ARCA nameplate in 1953 when he competed as a racer in ARCA-sanctioned short track racing at Flat Rock Speedway.
