Notable Quotables: Denny Hamlin On Last Week’s Incident With Kyle Petty

It almost sounds to me like someone sat the boy down and had a good talk with him, especially when you compare his comments last weekend to now.
HAVE YOU TALKED TO KYLE PETTY YET?
“No, I haven’t talked to Kyle yet but we’re here with a new weekend and I feel refreshed and ready to go.”HAVE YOU PUT THE INCIDENT WITH PETTY BEHIND YOU?
“Definitely. Kyle is someone who I really respect a lot, regardless of any on-track incident or anything like that. I definitely stand for everything that he stands for and a lot of (what we raise with) the ‘Wear Your Heart on Your Helmet’ campaign that we do with FedEx goes to Victory Junction Gang Camp at the end of the year. So we’re all about Kyle and we know that he’s fighting to stay in the top 35 as well as we’re fighting for that championship. Really, we’ve got two races within one.”IS IT TOUGH TO BE INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT WITH SOMEONE LIKE PETTY?
“Yeah, definitely. No matter what you do, Kyle is going to be right and a lot of what he did was right. It’s tough. You never want to be involved in an incident, especially with Kyle because he’s respected a lot like Mark Martin is in the garage. So really I’ve just got to learn to grow up as far as that’s concerned.”WHAT DO YOU THINK HE DID WAS RIGHT?
“I just like his intensity. Even though he’s not battling for a top-20 spot in points, he’s not out there just collecting a paycheck. He’s out there to race and he gets frustrated just like anyone else. I personally know that he got loose in front of me; I was right on him when I hit him. So there’s really not a whole lot I could have done. There was a closing rate that was big. But I probably shouldn’t have went after him. I should have just let it go as soon as he chose to hit my helmet. I should have just let it go and not gotten out of the car. It would have been no big issue, really.”

Sounds like Denny’s handlers finally caught up with him.

Denny still blames the wreck on Petty. Until he can admit it was his fault, he will still be considered an immature prima donna. I love JGR and Tony Stewart but Denny has had an arrogant attitude for about 18 months. He needs to grow up and realize he still needs to earn the right to act the way he does.

In Nascar there are a few sacred cows and Kyle is one of them. Denny should have known that and maybe a little private talk to tell Kyle he didn’t approve of his head slap would have gone over better with all those who think a Petty can do no wrong. As for me, Kyle was in the wrong!

My opinion is that Denny has gotten to believe that he is not at fault for anything. He is very arrongant and he needs to be taken down a peg or two. I think Kyle Petty was right to do what he did. Kyle was not racing Denny..Denny was just being his impatient self and tried to move Kyle out of the way and got caught up in his own mistake and then tried to blame Kyle Petty for it.

Kyle did let up right before the accident. You could hear the sound of the engine on the replay. I just think kyle was real uptight over the top 35, and the fact another car that cost a lot of money was wrecked. Denny did take the wrong attitude towards the entire incident. Thats my take.

People taking sides on this is weird to me. They were both right and both wrong. It was a fair fight (?) ’cause no one got hurt. Just a little spirit throw about. If these were my kids I’d say, “Get over it and get along! Now, go play!” Infact, I don’t think (if they were my kids) it would end up an issue for me to deal with. I think everyting was just fine. Plus, it showed Kyles spirit and I think people know he’s not just messing around collecting a paycheck there like Denny said. Also, I think Denny is mature enough. He has good driving etiquette (sp) and people do seem to like him. He is a good young man, and just because people get into a scrape or two, doesn’t mean he needs to grow up or because he doesn’t take fault a time or two for something doesn’t mean he’s arrogent. He hasn’t been arrogent. I have seen plenty of peole in NASCAR who have been arrogent or are, and Denny really isn’t one of them.

Denny still hasn’t even spoken to Kyle. Clint Bowyer said that Denny ran over Kyle and Kyle did not slow down. If this is the best that Denny’s handlers can do then I’d fire them. All of the comments that Denny made after the race are a big issue to me. You do not disrespect Kyle Petty like that. Denny is a self absorbed punk.

Hamlin has goot such a ego that I don’t know how his helmet even fits over his head. I was surprised that Kyle went over and pretty much told the kid off…Kyle only flipped the viser down on Hamlin’s helmet. It’s not like hit actually hit the kid. I don’t blame Kyle at all…why should he have to move out of the way so this kid can go by. Kyle was racing for points just as much a Hamlin. Maybe if Hamlin hadn’t raced in the Busch race he’d have been in a better mood on Sunday. Nah!!!! his ego is just way to big for him to even think about another driver out on the track. I hope he stays in 12 place in the points…

WOW! Do not disrespect Kyle yet in the same stroke insult Denny. hmmmm Somethng is not right about this! People forget that people are human and we all say things we wish we didn’t. Plus, not everyone is likable. Well, I think Denny IS likeable. Some of you obviously don’t. That is cool. Kyle was quite the youngun’ back in the day, lets not forget that!
