Sport Clips sends two soldiers, along with clients and team members to become race car drivers for a day

Joliet, IL (Saturday, September 29, 2007) – Sport Clips, men’s and boy’s haircutters will have two recent Purple Heart recipients among 19 clients, stylists, team leaders (franchisees) and area developers as they take the wheel of an authentic NASCAR-style race car to participate in the MVP 500 Richard Petty Driving Experience at Chicagoland Speedway, Saturday, September 29.

VFW-chosen participants in the Sport Clips’ sponsored event will be Army Specialist Michael Manning, 23, of Fort Carson, Colorado who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from December of 2005 to November of 2006. He was awarded a Purple Heart after being injured by a roadside bomb. Manning is still recovering from his injuries, but he says nothing will stop him from fulfilling his dream of taking on the track. Also, Marine Sergeant Nick Sowers, 29, of Menifee, California, served three tours of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003 to 2006 and was awarded a Purple Heart after a rocket propelled grenade hit the vehicle in which he and 12 other marines were traveling. Sowers still has shrapnel in his back from the attack, but says he is looking forward to his time on the track.

Sport Clips, one of the nation’s fastest growing hair-care franchises for men and boys, is taking some lucky team members and guests out of the salon and into America’s fastest sport. Founder and CEO, Gordon Logan, is a long-time auto racing fan, and he has put his desire to share his sports and racing interests into the more than 460 Sport Clips stores with this unique competition.

Logan says it’s important to reward the people who help make Sport Clips the successful business it is. “Without these clients, stylists, managers, team leaders, and area developers, Sport Clips wouldn’t be where it is today. The Richard Petty Driving Experience will give them the opportunity to get in on the fun, and I am thrilled to give them the chance to get off the sidelines and actually get into the game,” said Logan.

Sport Clips clients and their guests, the two VFW-chosen Purple Heart recipients, stylists, managers, and team leaders from around the country will also be part of the MVP 500 Richard Petty Driving Experience.

Fully-equipped for the sports enthusiast, Sport Clips offers televisions tuned to sports at every station and surrounds its clients with sports-themed décor that includes jerseys, pennants, lockers, and sports memorabilia available for purchase. Sport Clips serves its clients on a walk-in basis. One of Sport Clips’ best-known offerings is the MVP Treatment which includes a precision haircut, massaging shampoo, steamed towel, and neck and shoulder massage.

Headquartered in Georgetown, Texas, Sport Clips was named in Entrepreneur magazine’s January 2007 issue as the 72nd largest franchise in America, up from its 81st position last year, and the 49th fastest-growing franchise, moving up one position from its ranking in 2006.
