Hey, JR Nation! It’s The Engine!

by Heather Meyer ~ September 5th, 2007. Filed under: Articles by Heather.

I’ll start this by saying I’m not a JR fan.

I’ve been following all the craziness surrounding him this summer, his impending move to HMS, not taking Bud or the number 8.

It’s been reported today that Tony Eury Jr will be going with him to HMS.

What’s scarry is I’ve caught myself the last few weeks following JR on the track to see if he’s making up any ground to make it in the Chase. It doesn’t look like he’ll make it.

JR not making the Chase makes you wonder… was it all the drama, or Eury Jr’s suspension, or what?

I feel it all points to the 4 DNF’s.

In a release on May 18, 2007, it was announced the creation of Earnhardt-Childress Eacing Technologies.

It was stated that a joint venture partnership would combine the Chevrolet engine departments, with engine development work to begin immediately.

At the time of the release it was anticipated that all six RCR and DEI cars would run the first common engine at the Daytona race in July.

Since then DEI and Ginn have merged. Lo and behold, Mark Martin has engine trouble. He’s not running on HMS engines anymore.

But what I find most interesting about it is during the broadcast of this past week’s race it was stated that the DEI cars were running the old engines not the new R 07.

It’s already a proven fact the old engine doesn’t have the horsepower of the R 07.

I guess DEI is waiting til after JR is gone to use all the cool gadgets from Ginn or to take advantage of the engine department merger with RCR.

Good luck JR! I hope you have better success at HMS.

Best move he ever made getting out of DEI, they don’t want him to do well, hope Dale Sr haunts them……

Junior is taking Tony Jr. with him as a last gasp excuse in case he doesn’t do well next year. Just watch. If Jr. can’t get it done with Hendricks, Tony will be gone and Jr. can have ANOTHER fresh start in 09. If he wants to prove he is a racer, he should do it with everything and everyone NEW.

I see DEI as the opposite. I think they would try to give him the best equipment this year and help him win a championship THEN watch him waltz over to Hendricks. To me that would be a better “so there” than not letting him do well this year IF someone was actually thinking that way.

dei is giving Jr junk!!!to bad it had to end like this but i guess thats the way teresa wants it. she also wants the #8 why it has no meaning to her as far as tony jr goes hasn’t Jr gave up enough let him have his cousin he has nothing else and he trust tony.all this is just my opinion no matter where Jr goes ture fans will will be there GO JR!

I’m wanting to give a smart *** remark to this, but I’ll refrain. We, fans in the Jr Nation have known this ALL ALONG! It was a *****ing miracle that ALL FOUR DEI engines, lasted the entire 500 miles of the sweltering California race. They figured out that babying the engines, during practice WORKED.

Hey, Miss U 3, Rick Hendrick aint gonna shell out 6 or 7 figures to Eury Jr as an excuse for Dale Jr not doing well. What he IS going to do is throw big time engineering help Eury Jr’s way to make that 25 team a threat like the other 3 teams. Also, what drugs are you taking that makes you think Jr has to “prove he’s a racer”? He’s one of the best right now. He may not be a chasis man like Martin or Busch (Kurt) but he IS THE best on new tires, just like his old man was. One of his most impressive runs this year was Watkins Glen where he absolutely drove the wheels off the car only to lose a motor. Funny thing was, he didn’t blame the engine shop, he blamed himself for hurting it during practice the day before. I fail to see how you can say he needs excuses….he doesn’t play the blame game like some of the other spoiled boo hooers like stewart or kyle busch. The boy has class.

Funny how I am reading this and watching a recording of NASCAR Live listening to Martin Truex, Jr. relieved that he is locked into The Chase. I would have bet my last dollar Truex, Jr. didn’t get the best of the best equipment. So, is it the driver? Has Earnhardt Jr. been over driving his cars? Has his crew chief tried for too much horse power out of the lot? We’ll see when Dale gets to Hendrick.
