Quote of the Week

Like father… like son. See Steve Wallace’s quote on father Rusty’s expectations.

The thing he doesn’t understand is, when he was winning all those races, there weren’t 43 cars that could win. There were, like, five.

—Steve Wallace, on father Rusty’s expectations for him in the Busch Series

The young guys coming into nascar are under more pressure than the generation before. With the sponsor obligations alone are more than the older driver faced in a year. The young guys that have a father or uncle to follow are really at the mercy of the sport.

Rusty always thought he was the best, too bad the stats say otherwise

I like Mike’s commment, “Like father… like son.” Both are known whiners.

Steven is halfway right (learned that from Kyle P. hehehe). I would expect more mature comments to come from people who have thier lives and thier peers lives in thier hands every time they take to the track but hey….who am I? Anyways, hes right about less competition back in the day….but not much. Fact is, Rusty had to earn it and Steven has been handed it…wich is the whole problem here. In this day in age of high dollar whiners, (where is Dale Sr. when you need him?) no one is forced to earn thier way in anymore…its all locked up (pretty much) and the would be spots available in racecars are reserved for big names, hence the Wallaces, Pettys, Earnhardts, etc. If I remember correctly, Rusty earned his way into the sport, Steven was given a ride from his father. And now he repays him by calling him out and saying his dad didnt really have tough competition. What a slap in the face. If I was Rusty I would have sat Steven for a race or two to let him think about how lucky he is to have what he has, and to be given the opportunity hes been given. Nascar should have a better minor league system in place to give hungrier, more talented, less crybabyish, and more appreciative people a chance. Instead of the way it is. In my opinion Rusty sucked, and I dont care to see his son race either, but believe me, I like him alot less now that I know he is a sniveling little brat!
