Mark Martin, Driver of the No. 01 U.S. Army Monte Carlo SS had these interesting responses to questions from a press conference on Friday, June 8, 2007, at Pocono…
HOW MUCH FUN ARE YOU HAVING THIS YEAR WITH YOUR NEW SCHEDULE?
“It’s a dream come true. You know, the stars just had to lineup just perfectly for this to work out for me and the Army and Ginn Racing. I don’t know what would have happened sooner in my career or a little later – it would have been too late. So I’ve got the best gig in NASCAR.”
AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE CHASE, AND IF YOU’RE CLOSE TO MAKING IT, WILL YOU CHANGE YOUR SCHEDULE TO TRY TO MAKE IT?
“Nah, I’m good. I’m set.”
IF YOU ARE IN THE TOP 12, WHAT HAPPENS WITH THAT?
“I won’t be.”
IS THERE ANY TEMPTATION TO CHANGE YOUR SCHEDULE?
“No.”
DO YOU WANT TO RACE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP?
“No, I don’t even want to. So if I was leading, like I was when I missed my first race, I still wouldn’t. I don’t want to.”
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT YOUR PART-TIME SCHEDULE?
“Being off.”
It sounds like Mark is quite happy with things the way they are.

Mark, Have been following you and your career since you were running everybody off the track in ASA. Loyalty MM and the #6 and now of all things, a Chevy but we love MM be it #6 or #01. We purchased our new Mustang frm the dealership in Batesville and then drove back to the open house this year. Thanks so much for signing our car and all the things you signed for us that weekend. So, it hurts like heck to hear if your in the Chase that you won’t be running for the Cup. Com’on Mark, if you’ve got the chance to win it all. P L E A S E go for it. GO MARK.
We are 65 year old fans from Tucson, AZ. We try to get to 5 or 6 races each year. Curt & Dodie Melton
