How Hungry is the Monster?by Heather Meyer ~ May 30th, 2007. Filed under: Articles by Heather. |
This weekend the NASCAR circuit pulls into Dover,Delaware. The Craftsman truck series hits the track Thursday for practice. They have an entry list of 36.
Busch teams hit the track Friday. At this point in time all cars make the race. Buschwhacker’s won’t have have a lot of transfer information since it’s different cars this week.
Then you have the NEXTEL Cup Series hit the track Friday too. Only they will be in the COT car. Testing was cancelled, so tires will be an unknown too.
It will be interesting to see how quickly cars make it through tech to get practice time. With 49 cars entered those needing to make it on time are going to have to risk the wrath of the monster.
How many cars and trucks will he eat? How many of the regular top 35 cars will he get causing more frustration for those qualifying decent but kicked down the scoring pylon so the top 35 can make it in?
The top 43 on speed should race. Look at last week, how early a lot of the big name drivers left the race.
Did those sponsors get their moneys worth?
NASCAR should be happy there are so many trying to qualify.
Just let them race. You might get more excitement for qualifying.
May the monster not be to hungry during practice and qualifying. Best of LUCK to all those fighting to make the show.

I agree with you, I have been in favour of “go or go home” for the last couple of years. Last year wasn’t so bad, but this year with so many teams trying to qualify, it has brought the problem to the forefront. Most of the go home cars have qualified on time, but because of the owner’s points and past champion”s provional have missed out. The blatant use of Bill Elliot to get in a race with as a past champion is in my opinion is an insult to him and his fans. I think he was a great driver, and is still a very good driver, his qualifying for the race was proof of that. If they must have garranteed starts, limit it to the top twenty. and let the others fight it out on the track. If they need to use past champions provisionals limit the numbers to two or three. Nascar is losing support of the fans with their closed competition, even junior fans can accept him not making a race now and again.I unfortunately cannot affect anything that is decided by the “Big Wigs” as I am an Aussie who loves NASCAR. I am a “Rev-head” from way back who loves all forms of motor sport. and reads most articles on the sport.
