Here’s what Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, and Brad’s father Bob Keselowski had to say after Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Gateway International Raceway.
Brad Keselowski bumped Carl out of the way in turns one and two on the final lap of the race, and Edwards retaliated on the front stretch right before the checkered flag, sending Keselowski into the wall.
Edwards went on to win the race. Keselowski finished 14th.
Caricature of Carl Edwards by staff photographer Steve Langley.
“I couldn’t let him take the win away from me. We came here to win, and he took it away from me in turn one. I did what I had to do. He wasn’t going to take this one away from me. He got in over his head in turn one, and it was at my expense. He probably could have gotten by me without that contact.”
“That’s my job to win that race and to make sure that I don’t get walked on or get something taken away from me that’s mine,” he added “He knows that’s how I race, and I know that’s how he races, too. We both respect that.”
Carl Edwards
“It was just great racing. I figured out a way to beat him. He wasn’t happy with me, so he wrecked me. Wrecking down the straightaway is never cool whether it’s at 200 mph or 120. I’m sorry that’s the way it had to end.
“I’m sure he’ll say how sorry he is, or how cool he thinks he is, or how great of a guy he is in his own mind. But that’s not reality.”
Brad Keselowski
“Carl just flipped out and tried to kill the boy. It’s just like what he did at Atlanta. He’s not going to kill my boy. I might get out my [driver's] suit and take care of it myself.”

NASCAR is empowering Edwards by letting him get away with this crap the first time ! If they do nothing this time they are just turning into WWE type of action ! The blood is on Mike Helton`s hands ! It`s not if with , Edwards filty driving , but when He Kills someone , He should be charged with murder !! By the way I used to be a Edwards Fan , but no more !
Rubbin’ is racin’ until it’s a wreck. Then it should be reviewed closely for some fines and points penalties.
Keselowski got into turn 1 and 2 a little to deep and got into Edwards when his car slid up the track, Edwards got loose and Brad past him. Edwards deliberatly turned right into Keselowsky on the front stretch and wrecked him along with many others.Rubbin in turn 1 and 2? Yes, rubbin on the front stretch? I don’t think so!!!
Seems to me Brad can dish it out but can’t take it. Maybe he should retire like his old man. Lets see Johnson drives that way. Gordon, Busches, oh and the gand daddy of them all Dale Earnhadt was at one time the dirtest driver of them all. But hey that was racing. So because Edwards went for the win it’s not racing? What a bunch of butt holes. And no i’m not an Edwards fan. Couldn’t care whether he wins or loses. But it’s about time for Keselowski to pay his dues. If you can’t take it Brad GO HOME with your daddy.
I just wonder how many dallars it cost other owner for the repair of threw cars after Carl Edwards lost his temper and wrecked Brad K they all should take Carl to a hauler and beat the crap out of him for being so stupid and then NASCAR should strip the win and fine and deduct points from him and Jack Rouch, I think that mite get his attention, I know it would work on Jack. If something is not done someone is going to get killed, this needs to stop.
As I recall Brad drove like that has from the very begining .He has done the same thing to many other drivers but thats OK .Now we have Carl the only one with enough balls to race Brad the same way .If Brad cant put up with the heat then he should have thought of that before he started the fire. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CARL pay back suck sometimes
The wreck at Talledega, carls fault(he came down and ALWAYS expects others to lift). The lunacy at Atlanta was carl losing his temper, this latest wreck is obvious, carl did not spinout from the contact brad made with him.The end result was quite different.Alot of sheetmetal bent up as a result of mr.edwards temper, not to mention the risk of health to many drivers.
If NASCAR goes to far, they risk looking like hypocrites for saying “have at it boys”. The issue at hand is that Carl is a multi offender and has the appearance that he couldn’t care less about what happens to Brad K. Atlanta was one scary wreck and Gateway could have been a disaster if the broadside had hurt someone. Torn up sheet metal happens at every race, even on the final lap — see Talladega and Daytona.
I hate to see that Jack Roush has to have his
name associated with Carl Edwards, he deserves better.
I liked Carl when he first came to cup.
In the last two years+ or so, it has gotten
to where I cannot stand to hear him speak.
There are those who place the blame on Brad,
and points back to Talladega, and says Brad
“has it coming”.
What they do not mention though is that
Carl himself said that was his fault.
At Atlanta, Brad got into Carl whether intentional
or not is debatable and we all
know what happened when Carl got back on the
track later.
I have seen lots of folks say that Brad
still has it coming. That he has wrecked
others too. If that is the case, let them
settle it with him. Carl has “Paid him back”
way more than Brad has deserved from him.
I have seen folks say that Brad tried to do a bump and
run on Carl on the last lap when they had contact in 1&2.
If that was the case, Brad would have had more momentum
to pass Carl sooner than he did. Brad got loose and got
into Carl and had to gather his own car up. Otherwise,
Brad would have already been ahead of Carl when they got to
the third turn, he was not.
Carl flat out dumped him, Brad did not deserve it.
The other cars that were wrecked because of it
did not deserve it either.
Carl for several laps had Brad on the inside of
him. He had Brad at a disadvantage, Brad was using
his tires and brakes up more than Carl was.
Being forced to run the lower line gave Brad
the disadvantage of his motor running at a
lower RPM when coming off the corners.
Carl could not out run him, and Carl just couldn’t
take it. He lost his temper and dumped Brad.
Plain and simple.
The contact that happened in turn 1&2 had absolutely
no impact on the racing once they were halfway down
the backstretch.
Carl said “he tried to take it away from me”.
If Carl had not dumped him, Brad most certainly
would have took the win, but from hard racing and
not from contact.
A couple of weeks ago, you did not hear Kurt or Jimmie
either one say “He tried to take it away from me”
when they both did the so called “Bump and Run”
on each other. And you certainly did not see either
one get dumped for doing it.
Carl Edwards has a problem that needs to be
corrected before he kills someone or gets
himself killed.
He has proven it twice this year, does NASCAR
really want to allow him a third chance at it?
I am sure there are many that will disagree with me,
and that is OK. I have watched Nascar coverage since
it was on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. I have seen guys
get wrecked. Never with the vengeance that Carl has
been displaying. I personally think he should be parked.
For how long, I don’t know, but he should be parked.
