Ron Hornaday owned the track Saturday evening at Nashville Superspeedway to earn his fifth win in a row, making history in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Ron led 115 of 154 laps in the race, his sixth win of the 2009 season and his 45th career win in the Truck Series.
In 1971, Richard Petty and Bobby Allison both won five in a row in the now Sprint Cup Series. Ron can now hold the record of five wins with the other two drivers. Petty holds the all-time record with 10 in a row in 1967.
Hornaday has tried for the custom Sam Bass hand painted Gibson Les Paul guitar 13 times, five in the Truck Series and eight tries in the Nationwide Series. Sam said, “I finally got me a Sam Bass guitar!”, in victory lane.
“I couldn’t have done it without Rick Ren and this great crew, and Kevin and Delana Harvick, what can I say about Keven and Delana? They give us anything we need at the track and at the shop, give us full reign with our operation and it’s shows at the track, what a win!”.
Late in the race, on lap 86, Hornaday elected to take on four tires and came out of the pits in fifth position. Brian Scott, Colin Braun, and Timothy Peters only took on right sides and Jason White stayed out to take the lead. On lap 92, Ron made a three wide pass for the lead when he went inside of White and Scott went outside to overtake the second position. A caution came out to finish the race with a green, white, checkered flag finish and Ron held on to the lead taking the checkered flag in front of a excited Nashville crowd.
Hornaday took several victory laps with the flag in his hand up and down the front-stretch among the noisy crowd. His wife was in victory lane to greet him and several driver came to congratulate him on his history making win.
Pole sitter Timothy Peters came in fourth followed by Matt Crafton in fifth. Scott and Braun held on to their Second and third place finishes respectively. Ron has a big lead in the points, 216 ahead of Matt Crafton and 248 back to Mike Skinner, who finished a poor 14^th in the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.
Asked what he was going to do with his newly acquired trophy, Ron said he was going to polish it everyday and treasure the most beautiful thing he ever won. “I’m going to have a trophy case made especially for this Sam Bass original, who knows, maybe some day I’ll learn to play it, but for now, I’m going to cherish it everyday. These things are very hard to come by” said Hornaday.
Sam Bass won’t have to worry about this trophy being broken and cut up into tiny pieces, Ron is truly happy with his win and his trophy. Congratulations Ron, you deserve it!

Wow — he did not go The Who on the trophy? What is he thinking? Love his comments though. Maybe Kyle Busch will take notice of it. Five in a row — nice way to make a statement on where old drivers go to keep winning and show the youngsters how it is done.
