Track Trash – Being Bristolizedby Racing Maniac ~ March 26th, 2007. Filed under: Track Trash. |
Ona banga, twoa banga…….all the way to fifteenabanga. Enough Yellows to fill a book, but then, this is Bristol, and we have a boxcar to drive around this track one last time before they tear it up and “remake” it.
The bottom line of this whole race is that Gordo got out snookered in the last few laps. Who woulda thunk??
Rumors: Are we reading this right? Is there a possibility that Jerry Maybefield might be walking in the near future? If so, it’s been a looong slide for him (and his over aggressive flapping mouth). Jerry’s Oyota just ain’t been fast enough to qualify in most races, and BDR might cut their losses by closing the car down. Could we expect another lawsuit generated by Maybefield? Probably, cuz that may be his only source of income in the near future……
Rift: We’re reading that J Pablo and Gordo are not the best of friends anymore. Gordo took some air off J Pablo’s spoiler last week, and it wasn’t especially appreciated by the new darling of NA$CAR. Is it just me, or does Pablo seem to be getting a “holier than thou” attitude? Perhaps he oughta quit reading the press releases, cuz he may be getting a fat head.
COT: Aren’t we glad we don’t have to rename the new boxcar? Don’t worry……someone’s gonna come up with a name for it, and it’ll catch on just like “Lucky Dog” did. Speaking about the COT, TrimTony said he didn’t like it. Well……..duuuh. Would we expect anything different out of this wise sage??
Dog Food: RickyRude ran Pedigree as the sponsor at Bristol. I wonder if it perked any interest from the dog and cat lovers that were going through the tribulations of the Menu pet food scare. One thing you don’t wanna do is mess with someone’s dawg…..
deRoushed: We finally hear that Roush must drop one of his teams by 2010 to be down to the “max 4” rule. In the next few years, the 6 car will lose its luster, and should be the ‘chosen one’. However, be absolutely sure that in the next three years, Roush will find a loophole whereby they will have this team still under their wing….one way or another.
deMikey’d: Mikey (again) failed to make the roster, along with fellow Oyota driver Dave Rootman. Unfortunately, JoeNemo and SideBurnsMeynerd also failed to make the race. We predicted this when it appeared there would be 50 teams qualifying for 43 spots this year. It’s like trying to put 10 pounds of track debris into a 5 pound cleanup bucket.
Da race: Although Gordo led the first few laps, it was TrimTony with the hot car. Just about 50 laps into the race, Saddleburns had loose wheel nuts, and they had to have been loose during pre-race. So for a second race, teams just aren’t doing their homework before the race begins. He musta stripped some lugs, cuz he later came in twice for the same thing.
Not long thereafter, DJ got rammed by MattyBoy, then T-boned by DavieGilliland. There goes another Oyota……. As the race progressed J Pablo again was not making friends out there. His first real racing at Bristol was quite an experience, and one he’ll not forget. J Pablo is yet to be the consummate driver that we all anticipated…..
Not quite half way through the race, KaseOfKahne got the first bum rap for racing with “boxcars”. We quickly learned that the front ‘splitter’ is capable of either cutting another car’s tires, or knocking off the valve stem. This is an obvious flaw in the car’s design, and should be easily remedied by a minor redesign of the splitter. Now, the clock is ticking, NA$CAR…..
Perhaps the most alarming thing happened when TrimTony dropped out with a fuel line snafu (another ‘improvement’ in the boxcar). Up to that time, he had led 257 laps, but later came back out 23 laps down. That had to have been a kick in the guts, cuz he had the best car. Imagine….TT dissing the boxcar, yet having the best steed to ride.
As often happens at Bristol, it all boiled down to the last few laps. With 16 laps to go, all but the leaders pitted for new tires, and the race was on. The excitement grew when another yellow flew with 3 to go, and we were waiting for someone with fresh tires to blast past KidKyle, who was leading the race. Gordo sure looked like the man to beat, but Jburton put on a very strong move and out snookered Gordo to pull into 2nd. Looking back on it, it was a great drama playing out as we watched. Jburton 1, Gordo 0.
Kudos: To KidKyle for settling down and learning how to drive this track. To the wily Jburton for driving a tight race. To Gordo for not giving up (amazing how they got this car working right). To Happy…started 40th and ended in 4th. To Jr. for another top 10….he’s creeping up the charts, and at this rate oughta be in the top 10 in points in the next few races.
Heaps of 3’s all over yer box of Kellogs,

I’m sick of you showing Jeff Gordon no respeck. I hate you always calling him “Gordo”. I always notice that you don’t nick name the other drivers. This is a four time champion and you need to remember that.
