Track Trash – Left Right Left Right

It was a relief not to have a fuel race for a change.

The end was almost a tad boring because the top 3 cars were evenly matched, but at least the winner actually won the race.

And the trophy will arrive home in one piece………

Red Bull: Sooo, they may switch and become Bowtie next year. Interesting that Oyota would allow this to happen, considering the amount of success that KidKyle has had the past few years. Although not yet a dominate force in NA$CAR, Red Bull Racing has established itself as a premier sports oriented company, and is spread over several racing leagues. Yep, this could eventually become somewhat of a black eye for Oyota.

Jerry: The JerryMaybefield fandango is reading like a soap opera. They could sell tickets for the trial (if it ever gets there). Now his parts suppliers are getting into the act, and have sued for past-due invoices. And his ‘expert’ has bogus credentials. Jerry…..you aren’t listening. You are dead meat, and you’re beginning to smell. Go open a Subway shop and blend into the woodwork.

More Bull: OK, they say that Scott Speed is a terrific road course driver. But he over-drove a corner, and screwed up his qualifying effort. Not to worry. Daddy will buy your way into the race. Sure enough, Red Bull bought his way into JoeNemo’s seat, so we need to check his finishing position to see how good of a road course driver he really is. Sorry, but this is one case where a much heralded driver should pay their dues in the Busch league before getting a full time seat in a Cup car.

Blue Oval Engine: There’s a new Ford engine coming down the Pike, and it’ll be broken in via some of the lesser named Ford drivers. This, at a time when Yates and a few others have openly mentioned LESS horsepower to improve the overall quality of racing. This seems tantamount to having an illness, and seeing 5 different doctors. Yer gonna get 5 different opinions about what ails you.

Attention: We need a really good nickname for Brad Keselowski. This guy’s gonna be around for quite a while, and we need a short and snappy name for him. If no one is willing to help, I just may have to go with “Bradski”. By the way, he’s being mentioned as the third team member at Stewart-Haas next year.

Danica: More rumors. She would want to land with a solid NA$CAR team, and there aren’t that many that would be a good fit for her. Roush said she’d have to spend at least a couple of years in the Busch league, but maybe Danica has other ideas about that. There’s no question that she’d put some much needed spice into the Busch races, but would her ego allow her to step down in order to step up?

Da Race: Although I like a good road race, I’m sure I’m not the only fan that has a hard time keeping track of who might be there at the end. There are sooo many agendas being played out, so many different pitting sequences, that one cannot predict who might be in the lead pack with 20 laps to go. Then throw in a few wrecks here and there, and you start drooling and looking like a complete dweeb. So, taking notes during one of these races is mostly a complete waste of time (especially when the U.S. Open is playing on Bethpage Black, a public course that I was fortunate enough to play a number of years ago).

The Good: It was good to see The King back in the winner’s circle, even though it was a default via a merger. The Gillette/Evernham cars came in 1st, 7th and 10th (way to go, Saddleburns). Just to get refocused, see where The King’s 43 car ended up……..

The Bad: Aside from ClintBowowyer, the RCR cars seem to be out to lunch. Jburton pins this on a lack of testing this year, which means they just don’t have much of a clue on how to tune the COT. What a complete turn-around from 2008.

The Ugly: Scott Speed. For a guy that’s supposed to be an ace road racer, he sure stunk up the place. Need I say more? Also, that shining star from 2008 (Davie Ragan) is collectively a black hole in 2009.

Heaps of 3’s all over yer foaming Bud,
Racing Maniac #3
