This could go down as one of the dumbest races of ‘09. Another ‘winner’ who shoulda been at the end of the longest line.
What a way to waste a perfectly good 3 day weekend…… |
More Drugs: JerryMaybefield is still in the news, this time basically because he hasn’t filed his law suit yet. Maybe his shark lawyer has the real scoop, and is telling him he can’t win it. The end result is that due to NA$CAR’s iron grip on the sport, he won’t get reinstated until he passes the NA$CAR drug rehabilitation program. Trying to save face is gonna cost Jerry a pretty penny, and continuing to fund his shoe-string racing team is surely gonna put him in dire straits. He oughta bail out, open a Subway shop, and move on in life, because as far as the racing community is concerned, he’s damaged goods.
Wimp: The Rickster went public with an endorsement of Eury Jr., thereby sealing the fate of the 88 team for ’09. They may as well start focusing on 2010, cuz they sure ain’t gonna get decidedly better this year. As long as they continue to hold the Jr/Jr team together, they’re gonna remain just another ordinary second rate team.
Words: Combine the words “Gordo”, “back pain” and “retirement” together and you get a potent view of the possibilities. Gordo related that if the back pain doesn’t subside, he’s worried that it may force him to prematurely retire. The ‘procedure’ involved the injection of an anti-inflammatory into a spinal joint, and these 600 grueling miles should give him a hint about his future. By the way, was this injection considered “performance enhancing”?
Double File: Is NA$CAR on the verge of making another smart decision? Are they seriously thinking about double file restarts (like in the All Star race) when the lapped cars are sent to the rear (where they belong)? Think of it……no more lapped cars on the inside row for the restarts. This would allow a 10th place car to line up in the 5th row, versus the possibility of being 20 cars back with the present system. At a time when NA$CAR needs a shot in the arm, this could make a dramatic improvement in racing.
Heavy Dew: Two realities with rain delays….(a) if it’s with Fox, you’ll eventually be seeing reruns of The Simpsons, or some other idiotic program that forces you to change the channel. You’d think that Fox would capitalize on having a mostly captive audience, but noooo, their brains work differently. (b) When the downpour ceases, it’ll be almost 2 hours on the button (at night) to dry off a 1.5 mile cookie cutter, and 1+ hour during the day. And if it pours again, reset your timer.
Mikie: In case you missed it, there’s a rumor floating around that Trueaxle will bolt to MWR next year. Any solid move by Truex is a no-brainer, cuz he’s just not that competitive with the Teresa/Ganassi bunch. Makes one wonder about Mikie’s future, eh?
Long and Short of It: If you’ve been following the Carl Long fiasco, you know that through no fault of his own, NA$CAR just used a sledge hammer on a peanut. Whereas NA$CAR has been doling out huge penalties to stop the cheating, this is one case when they need to add common sense in the mix. If the Appeals Commission doesn’t right this wrong, this gives more fans another shot at becoming disenfranchised with the whole NA$CAR scene.
Da Race: On again, off again. I feel like I’ve wasted 24 hours of my life waiting for this race to start and end. Right from the git-go, Jr. had another bad handling car, and dropped like a rock. Could they fix it?? What do you think? Heck no !! The more they tuned, the worse they got. Time for the Wimp to make a decision……
Memorial: The best part of the race came promptly at 3:00 PM EDT, when they pulled out the red flag, stopped the cars, and made their feelings known about the service men and women that help to keep our nation free. A very nice touch.
Smoke: During one of the rain delays, TwoTonTony blasted Rootman for his immature driving, and then he laced into Rootman’s bald headed team member. It sure spiced up one of the dead spots……
The End: Too bad the winner (and the next two places) was determined by second-guessing the weather. It was another case of someone backing into a win and not earning it. Yeah, I wasted 24+ hours of my life. How about you??

Makes me glad I did not waste my time.
You sure sound like a sore loser. David Reutimann has been doing much better this year. So what, he was in the right place at the right time. I bet if it was Jr. you would not be crying, maybe not even if it was Mark the old fart Martin, Jimmy Johnson, Matt K and the list goes on. Get over it.
I do agree with you on Eury Jr and Jr. They must be split up one way or the other. Frankly, Jr. would have done himself some good yesterday if he just pulled his ill handling car into the pits, unannounced and parked it and got out and told Eury, either fix it or I am going home until you do.
Martin T to MWR… why not. His teams are doing better and better. Michael has said he might not be driving after this year if his own car and himself did not do better. I bet when he retires he won’t suddenly be coming back and back and back some a couple others have done.
Nascar seems to have totally gotten it all wrong with Carl Long and shame on them. Another reason to be sick of this sport.
As far as Mayfield goes…… His lawyer needs to sh*t or get off the pot. The longer he waits the worse it looks for Jeremy. After what happened to Kevin Grubb me thinks Nascar can not be too careful.
