Joey Logano might want to invest in lessons for the new Gibson, hand painted by artist Sam Bass, Les Paul edition guitar he won at Nashville Superspeedway Saturday. He took the lead for good with nine laps to go in the race to finish ahead of Kyle Busch. The pair of Joe Gibbs racing team members swapped the lead back and forth for a total of 172 of the 225 laps in the race.
Carl Edwards started on the pole but the strong Gibbs team was no match for Number 60 Save-A-Lot Foods Ford.
It was the first win of the season for Logano in the Nationwide Series and his second career win with Kentucky his first last season. “We had a really good run here the last time we were here and got caught up in a wreck. It was awesome to be able to get that win this time. Ever since I’ve been coming to Nashville I’ve been wanting to win that guitar and this is just awesome.”
Logano said on a Local Nashville News station, he had thought about winning this guitar for a long time and thought of what he would do if he actually won it. “I thought I would bust it up like a rock star would do on stage, but after seeing it in person, how beautiful of a guitar it really is, there’s no way I could do that!” Smart move on his part, it would be a real shame to destroy such a trophy.
The win will probably fuel the hype of the Logano rave, ‘Sliced Bread’, ‘Best since Jeff Gordon’, and so on, but the fact remains, he better get going with the Sprint Cup team. Logano is sitting 35^th in the Sprint Cup Series point standings and is close to having to qualify on time and risk missing some races unless he gains some needed points. Soon.
