A Sprint Monster Moment is defined as an action in a race where a driver exhibits extreme competiveness, passion or determination to win. Fans can choose from five clips. This year’s Sprint Monster Moment nominees are:
- Carl Edwards bumps Kyle Busch at the Bristol night race to take the lead and the win.
- Greg Biffle makes a late-race pass at Dover to hold off teammates Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards and capture his second consecutive win, making him two-for-two in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
- Carl Edwards’ valiant wall-brushing, final-lap pass for the lead at Kansas. Despite gaining the lead with the aggressive move, he was passed again on the final stretch by Jimmie Johnson and finished a heartbreaking second place.
- Jimmie Johnson’s rapid climb from 12th to second place at Atlanta with just six laps to go. The move earned him a commanding lead in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
- Carl Edwards dominates the season-ending Ford 400 by leading the most laps and winning the race and consequently putting as much pressure as he could on point leader Jimmie Johnson.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony will air at 9 p.m. (EST) Friday, Dec. 5, on ESPN Classic and will re-air at 2 p.m. (EST) Monday, Dec. 8, on ESPN2. Tune in to see the winning moment as selected by race fans.

Shea Holbrook, 18, of Groveland, FL was named the inaugural recipient of the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Scholarship for the first phase of the Women in the Winner’s Circle (WWC) Foundation Driver Development Academy.
“Cooper Tire’s decision to support the Academy and Shea demonstrates not only their support of training and educating young women drivers, but also their belief that women can be successful in all areas of motorsports,” said Lyn St. James, former professional motorsports driver and founder of the Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation and Driver Development Academy. “By choosing to partner with this program, Cooper Tire is helping move motorsports forward as a gender integrated industry.”
In 2008, Holbrook raced in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) ITS Class in her 1998 Acura Integra. She has also driven this car in the Formula and Automobile Racing Association (FARA) MP Classes and in National Auto Sports Association (NASA) events. Her next race is 25 Hours of Thunderhill in Richmond, CA on a four female team called DivaSpeed.
Formula One supremo Bernie Eccelstone said that a medal system will be introduced to prevent drivers becoming world champions “by not winning races”. The system, which will be introduced from next season, will replace the current structure that sees the top eight drivers in every grand prix earn points in the championship standings, with the winner of each race earns 10 points, second place 8 points and third place 6.
The medal system would see gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded for the top three positions, and the driver with the most race victories at the end of the season takes the championship. The proposal comes after Lewis Hamilton needed to finish in 5th place at the final grand prix of the season in Brazil to secure the driver’s championship. Hamilton would have failed to win this year’s title under the medals system, having only won 5 races to Felipe Massa’s 6. Eccelstone, the CEO of the Formula One Group, told a press event at London that he has the full support of both the teams and the sport’s governing body the FIA. “It’s going to happen,” he said. “All the teams are happy and the FIA are happy.
“I’m sick of people talking about no over-taking. If I (as a driver) need to get gold medals then I will do that. The proposal needs to be passed by Formula One’s governing body the FIA when F1’s world council meets next month. This report came from SportsBusiness.com.
