| Well, das Knaus sure knows how to take all the fun out of NA$CAR’s big race at Homestead. With little hope that anyone can overtake JJ, it might be a good time to take a snooze. Actually, for once the most important part of the race just might be the first 50 laps, or until JJ can put the Championship on ice. Go figure……. |

The Brute: Bruton Smith wants to buy NA$CAR. Bill France Sr. would literally turn over in his grave if this ever came to pass, cuz his kin (sprinkled throughout NA$CAR and ISC) would be thrown out on their ears. The only thing more ludicrous would be if ISC offered to buy SMI. So chalk all this nonsense up to a slow news day.
The Babe: Well, TEI is rumored be getting into an ‘alliance’ with AssiGanassi. Wait a minute….didn’t she merge with Gynn a number of months ago, and where did it get her? She temporarily got a couple of drivers, and some sponsors, and got the 15 car in the ‘top 35’ in points so Meynerd didn’t have to qualify. All that’s pretty much gone now, cuz she only has one sponsor for the two drivers she has left. Thus, her investment has pretty much gone down the tubes by now.
The Bill: Wild Bill Elliott is still thinking about running a few races in ’09. For goodness sakes, William, wake up and smell the roses. You ain’t no spring chicken any more, and your driving skills must have fallen off at least a tad. Why not “just say NO”, and let them hire some young dude who wants to make a career out of this?
The Bull: DennyHambone is last in the Playoff Points, and is beginning to get vocal about it. With all three Gibbs teams down toward the bottom of the heap, Denbone is threatening that changes have to be made. Of course, at the same time, he’s heaping praises on Mike Ford, his crew chief, but laments “I think to get better we’re going to have to have everyone within that race shop be a little bit more open-minded.” Now, how much more vague can he get about his proposed ‘fix’? Denise, you dimwit, why don’t you just storm into the race shop, point fingers, and scream at the culprits?
Da Race: A lot of green flag racing, sprinkled with a few yellows and a couple of reds. Yep, we’re racing in the arid desert at Phoenix, and get a red for rain. Well, at least it didn’t snow.
Gordo: What started out as a reasonably good day, it began to go south about a third of the way through the race. He noticed that the engine sounded different, and 30 laps later the HP started to drop. They suspected something was amiss in the valve train, and 100 miles later the Hendrick engine decided to take a siesta. Ooops, it was his 6th DNF this year, and almost certainly cements his goose egg for an ’08 win. The heavens will have to part in order for Gordhead to pull out a W at Homestead.
JJ: Well, let’s just say that he made up for the fiasco last week at Texazz. In the process he’s pretty much salted the Championship away, thereby eliminating all possible hype about it coming down to the wire. Nice going JJ. You spoiled a lot of promo for the last race of the year. And you can bet that all of the fence-sitters will all be watching the NFL next weekend.
Da Big One: With 40 to go, Pablo was the instigator of T.B.O. A number of cars got caught up in it, but the eye-opener was seeing the 38 car wedged right on top of the 84 car. From the TV angle, one might wonder how Scott Speed was able to get out of his mangled Red Bull Oyota. Welcome to the big leagues, Speedo.
Da Switcheroo: Running out of time on the Disney Channel (ABC), they had to switch coverage over to ESPN2. And to those fans who don’t have cable or coverage from one of the sputniks, I guess you were left out in the cold. Of course, your other option was to flip your radio on (if you have coverage in your area). Actually, the combination of listening to NA$CAR on the radio, and watching an NFL game with the sound off seems mighty inviting.
Kudos: To das Kurt, who finally got the Blue Deuce in without one of the many calamaties that has befallen them. To JamieMac for another stellar performance. To da Flipster for a great run at the end.
