The news and rumors were just too juicy for me to sit on the sidelines, so here’s a Special Edition. I just couldn’t contain myself due to the myriad of news items that tugged at my feeble brain.
Featherbedding: Now it’s Jeffrey, son of Kerry, grandson of The Old Man, and great grandson of Ralph that’s gonna get dubbed with the golden DEI wand. I haven’t heard too much about his driving prowess, but let’s just imagine that he can drive a mean go-kart. One certainly has to hope that he has more driving ability than his dad. Poor Kerry. The erstwhile son of The Old Man, he never could figure out what the gas pedal was made for. Yes, he’s driven some real dogs in the past, but mixed in with those had to have been a stallion or two that he just couldn’t ride. But let’s hope that he now has sense enough to take the high road. Work for the organization, take home a decent paycheck, and live the rest of his life as an Earnhardt.
Pigtail: What’s this rumor that Kyle, son of The King, may spend some time in the booth with TNT this year? Has he finally begun to see the light? This team desperately needs a development driver, but without a solid Busch league team, how do they get one? Well, they’ll have to go after an established driver, much like they did with Blobonte. Nonetheless, the news that he could be beginning his exit strategy is encouraging. And he would be an excellent choice to fill BP’s seat.
Saddleburns and Hambones: Both of these drivers have taken a page out of Smoke’s ‘book of life’, and have begun to trim down their torsos. All this at a time when NA$CAR is bringing out the larger COT for the chubby set. Now, if Saddleburns can step away from the dinner table after just one helping, there’s hope that I can do the same thing.
Pops: It’s gonna be interesting to see what gender Gordo’s kid will be. It sure didn’t take him long to plan for the future, cuz that kid’s gonna be born within hours of 9 months from their honeymoon. And yes, aside from a ‘triple flip and a roof job’, and the pile of money he’s earning via the circuit and endorsements, this is another one of life’s events that shapes drivers subconscious thought processes. Once he’s held that bundle of joy, will he take that ultra risky dive through traffic for the win, or will he just stay in line and take a 4th place finish? Time will tell. But time is beginning to run out for those who hope he will get his string of Championships that would set him apart from the other good drivers.
Bobby & BP: R.I.P. You both made your imprint on the sport, and we will remember your accomplishments. We will also remember you as the kind, gentle men that you were. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
Let’s go racin’: It’s less than three more weeks until the Bud Shootout, but the real racing begins on the following Thursday, Feb 15th. The Twin 150’s are the epitome of what racing is all about. A few of the racers don’t really care where they start in the 500, cuz they linger back in the pack until some time past midway of the event. However, most of ‘em are all tensed up and want to see how their cars stack up against the masses. The Twin 150’s are the final tune-up before the Big Dance, the Super Bowl of racing. Expect to see some great racing.
Heaps of 3’s,
