BradK: So Hendrick is gonna run BradK in the 25 car at CMS in a few weeks…..as their 5th entry. Excuse me, but there’s a 4-car limit now. Roush’s 5th car is grand fathered for another year, so I’d like to know exactly how Hendrick’s gonna accomplish this. The only way for this to happen is if he would take CaseOfMears place, and this could certainly happen since Casey is a lame duck driver. Or, they could quickly add RoboGordo as a satellite team and the 25 could join the 7. Or the sky could fall down and NA$CAR could overlook this travesty. However, if memory serves me, didn’t DEI try to run a 5th car earlier this year only to be told “no thank you”?
AJ: He just got cut by Red Bull, and will certainly land a job for next year. However, at this point the pickin’s may be slim with getting’ a solid competitive team. But who knows………this is Silly Season.
PattyBoy: Carpentier is probably in the same boat as AJ. Like I’ve said before, this is like musical chairs, with some of ‘em going to the bone yard because there aren’t enough rides out there. Or perhaps we oughta get more realistic…..there aren’t enough free spending sponsors out there to support the number of available drivers.
BlueEyes: Sorry to see Paul Newman pass away. He was a long time speed freak, and we will miss him.
Pre-race: Wow, we actually saw Smoke with a babe sitting next to him during an interview. This is headline news, just a tad below the level reached if Jr. actually showed up with a babe.
Da Race: Dumb moves were popping up all over the place. First it was Bowowyer trying to pass before he even got to the Start line. Then he was caught speeding on pit road…….the stupid thing was that he sped ONTO pit road, and OFF OF pit road….during the same pit stop. This does not show championship qualities.
Flip: Da Flipster had an interesting day. He was slammed into in the pits, not once, but on two separate occasions. Late in the race, with one lap to go, it looked like he might be able to snatch the W out of JJ’s hands. He made a daring pass, but carried too much speed….into the wall, which lost his momentum. Not giving up, he tried to duck under JJ as they neared the finish line. A very daring move, which delighted the fans, but (unfortunately) no cigar for his efforts.
Joey: One might try to read between the lines with his 39th place finish, and 4 laps down. One might think that this might be indicative of his driving skills. But let us not forget that he was driving the DLP car, which is (frankly) not in the least bit competitive. If one of the top drivers were behind the wheel of this car, they’d immediately call it a piece of junk. Unfortunately, DLP can’t afford a top driver, so they’re taking the best that’s available, and right now it’s a kid that’s still wet behind the ears.
Kudos: Looking at the top 10 finishers, the names of DavieRagan, AJ, and Saddleburns jumps right out and smacks your kisser. Great driving by all of them. CaseOfMears also had flashes of brilliance today, perhaps showing what might be in store for him next year. But the best (of course) was the last two laps of the race, when da Flipster put on his show, and nearly gave JJ a thumping.
