GEM Stays With Dodge
Dodge Motorsports officials say published reports that Gillett Evernham Motorsports could move to another manufacturer next season are “pure speculation.” Mike Delahanty, senior manager for Dodge Motorsports programs, joined a national NASCAR teleconference Tuesday to address the report that appeared on Fox Sports, saying that GEM could join ranks with Bill Davis Racing and switch to Toyota next season. “I just want to respond to these recent reports regarding Gillett Evernham Motorsports, specifically regarding Bill Davis Racing and the speculation that GEM would leave Dodge,” he said. “It’s nothing but pure speculation. Dodge and Gillett Evernham have a long history that dates back to our return to Sprint Cup racing. Dodge and GEM have a long-term contract in place, and we plan to continue as partners in NASCAR. “We’re aware and have had discussions about GEM’s interest in adding a fourth car, but there’s been never any discussion about running anything other than anything but a Dodge. .
Frye Stays At Red Bull
Yahoo! Sports has learned that Jay Frye announced in a team meeting Tuesday that he has agreed to remain as the general manager of NASCAR’s Team Red Bull. In an exclusive interview with Yahoo! Sports, Frye expressed his desire to continue the course he’s laid out for the fledgling stock-car organization. Frye’s decision puts to rest any speculation that the Rick Hendrick protégé would leave Red Bull to take a similar position at Stewart Haas Racing. When asked about the Stewart Haas offer, Frye replied, “I’ve always wanted to stay here. I love where I’m at. This is the perfect job.”

GEM to buy BDR? UPDATE denied:
from a Dodge Motorsports PR:
Q: IN SPITE OF RECENT PUBLISHED REPORTS, CAN YOU PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON DODGE’S DIRECTION IN MOTORSPORTS – IN PARTICULAR NASCAR AND GILLETT EVERNHAM MOTORSPORTS?
Mike Delahanty, Sr. Manager – Dodge Motorsports: I just want to respond to these recent reports regarding Gillett Evernham Motorsports – specifically regarding Bill Davis Racing and speculation that GEM would leave Dodge. It’s nothing but pure speculation. Dodge and Gillett Evernham have a long history that dates to our return to Sprint Cup racing (2001). Dodge and GEM have a long-term contract in place. We plan to continue as partners in NASCAR. We’re aware and have had discussion about GEM’s interest in adding a fourth car, but there’s never been discussion about running anything but a Dodge. Anything beyond that, we classify as pure speculation. We’re pleased to see the turnabout in the competition side at GEM and absolutely look forward to many more Victory Lane celebrations together.”
Q: WHAT ABOUT DODGE’S COMMITMENT TO MOTORSPORTS…HAS IT CHANGED?
MD: I don’t know how many times we have to keep saying it, but we are committed….we have long-term contracts in place…not only with Gillett Evernham, but with Penske Racing…with Petty (Enterprises) and with Chip Ganassi Racing. We’re committed to the sport. We’re committed to these guys…I don’t know how many times we have to repeat it.(Dodge Motorsports PR)(9-17-2008)
Patrick Carpentier is officially a free agent as the driver says that Gillett Evernham Motorsports has told him it does not have a sponsor for him for next season. Carpentier had been free to talk to other teams, but GEM had first right of refusal until Tuesday. GEM could still find a sponsor for Carpentier, but the former open-wheel driver believes that likely will not happen. GEM already has three drivers under contract for next year – current drivers #9-Kasey Kahne and #19-Elliott Sadler as well as Chip Ganassi Racing’s Reed Sorenson. “We’re talking to a couple of teams, and some of them seem to have a good interest,” Carpentier said. “Hopefully we do [find something], but you never know in racing.” Carpentier’s business partner, Robert Desrosiers, said he was optimistic that Carpentier could find a ride with another team. “There are still some good rides [that] are available,” Desrosiers said. “We’re talking to all these guys. … Now that Patrick is free, I believe one of these teams will be interested in sitting down with us.”(SceneDaily)(9-17-2008)
Triple Duty for Johnny Sauter: Fresh off a top-20 finish at New Hampshire [in the #70], Johnny Sauter looks forward to a triple duty weekend at Dover International Speedway. Sauter will pilot the #08 FUBAR All Natural Dodge in the Sprint Cup Series. In addition, he will be behind the wheel of the #78 Chevy in the Nationwide Series and the #12 Dodge in the Camping World East Series. “I just want to race as much as I possibly can,” said Sauter. “Anytime someone comes to me with an opportunity to race, no matter what series or division, I’m all for it.”(9-17-2008)
Allmendinger’s future to be decided by end of week?: Red Bull Racing’s driver, former open-wheel racer A. J. Allmendinger, has made great strides since his stock-car debut last season, although his future with the team is still up in the air. In addition, Team Manager Jay Frye has former F1 driver Scott Speed waiting in the wings. Speed has been nothing short of remarkable this season, winning both Craftsman Truck series and ARCA stock car races. He leads the drivers’ standings in the ARCA series. Speed will make his Sprint Cup debut this fall [at Lowe's Motor Speedway], and all signs point to him running a full Cup season next year. A decision on Allmendinger’s future is expected by week’s end.(Yahoo Sports)(9-17-2008)
Special scheme at Texas for Martin: The VAULT “Honoring the Uniform: Calling for Support” program will be highlighted as part of a special camouflage paint scheme on the #8 U.S. Army Chevy driven by Mark Martin during the Sprint Cup Series Dickies 500 (Nov. 2) at Texas Motor Speedway. VAULT is the title sponsor for the pre-race show and is presenting a live concert by REO Speedwagon. People are encouraged to write messages of support on pre-addressed postcards, which can be found on special camouflage-themed VAULT 12-packs, at VAULT displays in participating retail stores or online at DrinkVault.com and MyCokeRewards.com, while supplies last. The postcards can be dropped in the mail with a first-class stamp and will arrive at a USO collection center for security screening before being distributed to U.S. troops during the holiday season. The VAULT postcard program replicates the popular service previously operated by the U.S. Department of Defense, which allowed the American public to send mail addressed to “any service member” for more than 17 years before being discontinued in 2003 due to security concerns. In addition to sending postcards, people can help raise up to $100,000 for the USO by visiting MyCokeRewards.com through the end of the year and turning the points they earn by drinking Coca-Cola products into a cash donation. My Coke Rewards points found under caps and on packaging of more than 60 products from Coca-Cola North America can be donated to help support the continuing efforts of the USO to provide a home away from home to U.S. troops wherever they serve.(BusinessWire)(9-17-2008)
Big Red scheme for Montoya: The #42 Dodge of Juan Pablo Montoya will carry the bold red scheme of Big Red for this weekend’s 400-lap race in Dover. The #42 Dodge will carry the Big Red Slim Pack colors in one more event after Dover this season at Martinsville Speedway. Montoya will be celebrating his birthday this weekend at Dover. He turns 33 on Saturday.(CGWFS PR), see my #42 Team Schemes page for the image of the car.(9-17-2008) www.jayski.com/schemes/2008/42cup.htm
Jeff Gordon stepped away from his on-track duties earlier today [Tuesday, Sept 16th] to visit Capitol Hill. Gordon met with key lawmakers, including the House of Representatives North Carolina delegation, to urge their continued support of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). The NMDP, a nonprofit organization, serves a vital role in the U.S. health care system by facilitating unrelated marrow and cord blood transplants to treat patients with more than 70 diseases including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia. Through the Jeff Gordon Foundation, he has advocated for the NMDP and the need for Congress to support the use of publicly donated umbilical cord blood to save the lives of patients with life-threatening diseases who need a transplant.(PRPlus PR)(9-17-2008)
Over 500 supporters of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to attend Dover race: What started as an opportunity for supporters of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to attend a NASCAR event together has blossomed into a large gathering for one very worthy cause. Since being introduced earlier this summer, the partnership between the NFFF and Dover International Speedway has garnered much attention through a special offer that will attract over 500 people associated with the firefighting community. Supporters of the NFFF are coming to Dover to enjoy race day on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 – and to honor the nearly 100 firefighters who lose their lives each year in the line of duty. Every day, the over one-million firefighters around the country respond to calls to keep citizens safe. At the races in Dover, over 250 fire and EMS crews work to keep drivers, crews and all the fans in attendance out of harms way.
The offer includes a ticket to the Sept. 21, 2008 “Camping World RV 400 presented by AAA” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, admission to a pre-race, NFFF hospitality area, and a trackside tour of the Monster Mile. Jeff Burton, driver of the #31 AT&T Mobility Chevy, has volunteered his time and will participate in a special question-and-answer session in the NFFF hospitality tent on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 21. As part of pre-race activities, a ceremonial lap around the track will feature several fire trucks carrying survivor families of loved ones lost in the line of duty in 2006. A portion of proceeds from the sale of a special firefighter Miles the Monster t-shirt and substantial contributions from sponsors, including Holmatro, Volunteer Fireman’s Insurance Services, Kidde Fire Fighting and PBI Performance Products, will make the donation of more than $27,000 possible. Plans are currently being made to grow the program for next year’s Sept. 27, 2009 Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway. NASCAR returns to the Monster Mile on Sept. 19-21, 2008. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 800-441-RACE or visit DoverSpeedway.com.(PR - firehero.org)(9-17-2008)

All reserved overnight parks outside the track open at 8 a.m. the Tuesday of race week (Sept. 30) and must be cleared by 11 a.m. Monday following the race. Guests will be required to show their race tickets and parking pass prior to entry and a valid ticket must be shown each time for admission. Reserved overnight parks with availability include:

Mike Wallace….Drag Racer? Mike Wallace has struck up a friendship with Nitro Funny Car team owner/driver Bob Gilbertson and was in his pits over the weekend at the new zMAX Dragway. Anyway, evidently over a few adult beverages and barbeque, the two drivers talked about Mike driving Gilbertson’s fuel coupe and perhaps getting his license. One thing led to another and now Mike Wallace is going to get his Fuel license in Gilbertson’s car. Wallace is an old friend of Drag Racing Online’s editor Jeff Burk so Burk called Wallace about the deal. Wallace wanted to make sure everyone is clear that he isn’t changing careers; he is still a NASCAR shoe but he is anxious to try his hand in a fuel coupe just for the experience.(Drag Racing Online)(9-16-2008)
Marks Moving to Nationwide Series: Justin Marks will drive the #9 Construct Corps Tundra at Las Vegas in his final Truck Series race of the season before moving over to Nationwide Series competition. After Las Vegas concludes Marks season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, he will set his sights on racing a Toyota Camry. “We’ve been in discussions about which races to put on the schedule. I’m pretty confident my first Nationwide Series race will be at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, and that I’ll be racing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Talladega. There are about three more Nationwide races we’re working out and we’ll make an announcement when we get everything finalized,” said Marks.(Germain Racing PR), no word on what team he will drive for. He made his Series debut earlier in the year with Braun Racing, but Germain has run a second car this year as well.(9-16-2008)

Landon Cassill leads Bryan Clauson by three points (171-168) in the Raybestos Rookie standings entering the Camping World RV Sales 200 at Dover International Speedway.
Brad Keselowski was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the 2007 Camping World RV Sales 200 at Dover, scoring a seventh-place finish.
Three Raybestos Rookies finished in the top-10 in the 2005 Camping World RV Sales 200, the most freshman drivers to finish in the top-10 in the fall Nationwide Series race at Dover since the program was created in 1989 (19 previous races): Reed Sorenson (fourth), Denny Hamlin (sixth) and Carl Edwards (ninth).

Coming out of nowhere, the NOS Energy Drink No. 30 car hurtled to a top-20 finish at 2007’s fall Dover Nationwide Series race. With that auspicious start boosting it forward, the NOS Energy Drink NASCAR program took off and raced forward into 2008 with a plan to be the leading energy drink in NASCAR. Now, with less than a third of the season remaining, the NOS NASCAR team revisits the track that began the journey last September. With a double dose of racing scheduled for the No. 30 and No. 50 cars, team driver Stanton Barrett knows that this weekend will be action packed. “I love Dover. It’s one of my favorite tracks, very fast and a good place to race” said Barrett. “Last season, we had a great first race for NOS at Dover - I’m looking forward to seeing everyone from NOS and FUZE out there supporting the team this weekend, just like last year.” (SKIMO) (09-16-08)
Most people would enjoy a weekend off, but not Mike Wallace. Sitting 8th in the point standings in NASCAR’s #2 series, he will run the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in Talladega on October 4th, driving a Toyota Tundra for Germain Racing with sponsorship from GEICO. Wallace has experienced considerable success over the years at the 2.66-mile high-banked superspeedway, nearly reaching Victory Lane the last two years in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races. Long time sponsor GEICO will be along for the ride again this year and Wallace hopes to put the Gecko in Victory Lane. One of the sports top restrictor-plate racers, Wallace has also been tabbed to pilot a fourth car for Richard Childress Racing in the Amp Energy 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, October 5th. “It’s going to be a very exciting weekend for both Chrissy and I,” Wallace said. “I have enjoyed running the restrictor-plate races and it will be nice to be in a competitive truck and car and have a chance to win two races that weekend. It is especially flattering to be asked to drive for Richard Childress in the Cup race on Sunday.” Read more (PMI) (09-16-08) thehotlap.com/modules.php?name=Press_Releases&op=view&rid=2452

ARCA Chaplain Bill Krick Back on the Chapel Trail
TOLEDO OH (9-16-08) - ARCA RE/MAX Series Chaplain Bill Krick is in very good hands, and he’d be the first to say so.
After undergoing open heart surgery on July 23rd, the longtime ARCA Chaplain, who heads up Focus Motorsports Ministries (FMM) with his wife Diana, made his healthy return to the series last weekend at Salem Speedway.
“Getting back to the track was the best medicine yet,” said Krick. “The overwhelming support both Diana and I received from the ARCA community just reconfirms how special this place is, and why we yearn to be a part of it. The ARCA family is very special, and we’re reminded of that every day. It’s just incredible.

News & Notes
The Race: This event is the 12th of 13 races on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio schedule. It is the series’ second visit to the track.
The Procedure: The starting field is 24 cars, including provisionals. The first 21 cars will be determined from two-lap time trials. The remaining three spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race will be 300 laps (99.99 miles).
The Track: Riverside Speedway originally opened in 1969 and was modeled after the legendary Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. In 2005, the track was completely demolished and rebuilt including a new racing surface, concrete walls, lighting, grandstands and control tower. Like its counterpart, Riverside features high-banked turns with the turns having 14 degrees of banking. The front stretch is 440-feet long with a banking of six degrees while the back stretch is also 440 feet but with a five-degree banking.
The Records: The one-lap qualifying record for the Canadian Tire Series is 14.883 seconds (80.548 mph), set by Peter Gibbons last year on Sept. 16. The 300-lap race record is held by Mark Dilley at 1 hour, 49 minutes, 16 seconds also set last Sept. 16 for an average speed of 54.857 mph.
A Season Ago: The Riverside race was the first in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series history to fall victim to the elements. Due to rain, Saturday’s events were postponed to Sunday at which polesitter Gibbons had the dominant car. He led 201 laps before having to retire his car with a mechanical problem. Dilley led the final 38 laps en route to his first series victory beating JR Fitzpatrick to the line by nearly a second.

The Nascar Insiders
Mergers, Mergers Everywhere
Mergers are the talk all over NASCAR as sponsorship money becomes tighter and the divide between competitive organizations becomes larger. These deals have come into focus in recent weeks, with Gillett Evernham Motorsports rumored to be acquiring at least part of Bill Davis Racing and the resurgance of the rumor that won’t seem to die, linking Michael Waltrip Racing with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Car Insurance Toyota Tacoma for sale

Enjoyed reading the blurbs. Regan Smith once used a TM engine that belonged to my husband. About 9 years ago, my husband was participating in World Karting event at Charlotte. Regan Smith was driving for a Birel team using TM engines. All the engines on hand were stuck, so when the team heard my husband used TMs, they borrowed his engine. Regan came from last place to overtake the leader–then spun out in the last lap. We could tell that he was going to be great.
My husband still has the engine.
