It’s true. Michigan is a great track, with three and four wide racing.
Too bad it has a hex on the entire Hendrick team this year………
Hired Gun: OK, Mikey hired Skinhead to run the 00 McDowell car for the next few races, ostensibly to get feedback so MWR can improve their overall competitiveness. The first question that pops into ones mind is “Can we assume from this that Mikey has no friggin idea how to provide quantitative car feedback?”
Bone yard: Someone’s going to the bone yard, and it looks like it’s gonna be a JGR employee. The ‘hot’ 18 & 20 cars in the Busch league were sent to the dyno, and NA$CAR found magnets on the back of the throttle pedal. The magnets would not allow the pedal to be depressed all the way down, thus limiting their max rev and HP. Sooo, we have a cheater in the midst at JGR, and someone’s gonna hang from the gallows on this one……. Expect big penalties on this one.
Kodak of old: Remember the old Kodak #4 car that used to tool around the track? Even though they hadn’t fielded a car in a while, Morgan-McClure still thought they had rights to that number. Alas, NA$CAR yanked it from them, and gave it to StewHaas for Rocketman. You can bet your bippy that Morgan and McClure are hot under the collar on this one, and they have every right to do so. What would you think if NA$CAR gave the #3 away?? I rest my case.
For Sale: BDR is quietly trying to sell his fleet, noting that the cost of running a team these days is astronomical. In a surprise move, Danny Sullivan (IndyCars) put a bid in and is waiting for a response. Yes, the sport is still in turmoil, and new blood is needed every now and then.
4th RCR: Smells like CaseOfMears is gonna get the 4th seat at RCR. He would fit right in, and be a complement to the other drivers there. But he could still wind up being the low man on the totem pole, although he won’t be surrounded by the mega-stars he’s sitting under at Hendrick. All things considered, at least he won’t stand out like a sore thumb.
Da Race: As well as they ran at Da Glen, the 21 WoodsBros car blew an engine just 19 laps into the 200 lap race, thus dashing their hopes of advancing in stature in 2008. Sort of sad, cuz the racing community was hoping the ex-legends could make a comeback.
Gordo: Well, this just wasn’t Gordhead’s day. Racing near the front at the start of the race, they had a bad pit stop that mired them back in traffic, and from that point their day went downhill….fast. A few laps later, during a three-wide battle, Smoke nudged JJ, who then came down on Gordo. The end result was JJ having his LF go flat and losing a lap, and a few laps later Gordo losing it into the wall and severely damaging his car. I would still say to Gordo: “dhump the whale”……. How many Points places have you fallen in the last several races??
Jr: After leading a number of laps early, and looking stout in the process, they gradually lost their edge. Their crowning (un)glory came with less than 20 laps to go when he slapped the wall and had to come into the pits for repairs. This combination smells just like a number of other races where the longer they ran, the worse they got. In this whole process, the 88 team is sliding in the Points race.
Hambone: Not having a great day, nonetheless DennyHambone progressed thru the field and was making solid progress…..until he blew his engine with 6 to go. And talk about sour grapes….during an interview he was upset that a myriad of calamities had befallen their team this year, and seemed almost in tears. Yeah, Denbone, I got a hankie for you……
JJ: To add insult to injury, on the last lap TravisCapfull nudged JJ, who then did a spin in the infield grass. In the process he lost several places. Hey, when it goes south, sometimes it goes really, really South. Just ask yer bud Gordo…….
Great job by da Flipster yesterday and today. As they’re saying “anyone but da Kid”. Another solid finish by DavieRagan. Da Biff and Mattyboy followed thru with 4 of the top 5 finishers being Roushketeers. Good runs by VickersVapoRub, Happy, Saddleburns and JamieMac.
