Holiday Happenings Keep Racing PR Folks Busyby Capt. Herb Emory ~ December 21st, 2006. Filed under: Captain's Corner. |
Georgia Boys: Bill Lester might be teaming up with a Georgia-based team for the 2007 Craftsman Truck Series. Lester has left the Bill Davis team that fielded the No. 22 for the Cobb County driver for the past two years. It looks like a deal is in the works for Lester to take over driving duties for the Chevrolet truck owned by Billy Ballew Motorsports. The truck team’s business office is based in Woodstock and Ballew lives in Blairsville.
Rockdale County’s Ron Young was among drivers testing at Daytona for the ARCA/ReMax Series last week. Young was driving a No. 14 Dodge in the tests for C.E. Clower preparing for the first ARCA race at the speedway Feb. 10th.
Michelle Theriault, of Alpharetta, Chris Cockrum, of Conyers and Dicky Williamson, of Savannah were also among the 77 drivers participating in the three days of test runs at the superspeedway. Theriault turned the fastest lap among the Georgia delegation.
The speeds registered during the tests ranged from 131 to almost 182 miles-an-hour. The fastest overall lap was registered by the only Toyota in the field. Josh Wise clocked in at 181.925-mph in what was the first stockcar tests for Toyota at Daytona International Speedway.
Buckshot Jones plans to run the Hooter’s Pro-Cup Series in 2007. The Gwinnett County driver has driven in over 200 Busch and Winston/Nextel Cup races since 1995. His last NASCAR events were in 2004.
