Pack was NASCAR Whelen Modified Driver
When ever anyone attended a NASCAR Whelen Modified race, one could count on Brian Pack to have the best paint scheme on the track, combined with the biggest smile, most of the time. The fan favorites were the Dukes of Hazzard and the “Pac Man” scheme. |
On Friday afternoon July 25 at approximately 1:45, Brian lost control of his motorcycle on Pinehall Road in Walkertown, NC. His injuries from the accident were fatal.
No matter what track you were at, you could always count on Brian to lighten the mood. He was easygoing out of his race car, but when he started that engine, look out, as he was a contender more times than not.
Lifelong racing companions, David Sell, Brent Elliott, and Burt Myers continue to struggle with the loss of their friend. All of the Whelen NASCAR Modified community is struggling with the loss of one of their own.
Brian’s father, Gene, is also a competitor within the series and as they took to the race track at Bowman Grey Stadium in Winston Salem, NC for the next scheduled race, Brian’s crew pushed his race car around the track for one final lap before the race began. This was when it became real to everyone in attendance. A quiet hush floated throughout the air as the “Pac Man’s” race car made its final lap. All of the drivers ran decals on their race cars in remembrance of Brian for the race.
Burt Myers dedicated this race to his friend Brian and his family. Burt “ringered” the pole and ran wire to wire to win the first 25 lapper.
The next heat was won by Brent Elliott who summed his feelings up this way “The win felt good, but it didn’t feel right…We are really going to miss Brian.”
RIP Brian “Pac Man” Pack… Gone but never forgotten!
