In case you missed it, the National Stock Car Racing Commission announced that it has denied Dale Earnhardt Inc.’s appeal of the penalties issued after Daytona against Martin Truex Jr. Before we look at what this means, let’s go back to the infraction itself so we can understand the thought process by NASCAR and the commission.

Stewart may be ready to revive Haas team, but is he willing?
sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/lars_anderson/07/11/stewart/index.html
A few years ago I flew with Tony Stewart from Martinsville, Va., to Eldora Speedway, a tiny dirt track he owns in Rossburg, Ohio. Once we strolled through the main entrance at Eldora, where there was going to be a sprint car race later that evening, Stewart went to work. He changed light bulbs. He checked supplies. He inspected the catch-fence. He examined the quality of the dirt on the track. He noted where fresh paint needed to be added. And, of course, he greeted fans, shaking hands and even kissing a few babies.

Stewart’s Car Number Will Be 14
Tony Stewart is likely to drive the No. 14 car next season with Stewart-Haas Racing. Current Haas-CNC general manager Joe Custer recently applied for a trademark of the number 14 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The application was made back on July 2, a week before Stewart publicly announced he would be leaving Joe Gibbs Racing to drive for the team he will co-own next season. The trademark is a way for NASCAR teams to protect non-licensed vendors from producing and selling official products with the number. The trademark covers everything from shirts to luggage to lunch boxes to knives and air fresherners. Stewart has competed with the No. 20 at the Sprint Cup level since beginning his career with Joe Gibbs Racing in 1999. He has never campaigned the No. 14 at either the Nationwide/Busch Series or Craftsman Truck series level. An announcement is expected this weekend at Indianapolis.

Speedway Lowers Cost of Bank of America 500 Race Experience
Building on Benjamin Franklin’s simple concept of, “a penny saved is a penny earned,” Lowe’s Motor Speedway has developed a multi-faceted program to lower the cost of attending a NASCAR race despite rising fuel costs during these difficult economic conditions. Working with area hotel operators, its souvenir and concession vendors and corporate sponsors, Lowe’s Motor Speedway has reduced the overall cost for fans to attend the Bank of America 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday night, Oct. 11. In an unprecedented move for a NASCAR race market, 35 hotels located within approximately 30 miles of Lowe’s Motor Speedway have agreed to reduce their nightly race week room rates by 15 percent and waive their minimum stay requirements.

Labonte In For Petty At The Brickyard
Despite Kyle Petty’s six week TNT television gig ending with the race in Chicago, Petty will not be racing in the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard this coming Sunday. Terry Labonte, who filled in for a few races while Petty was away, will make it one more race. The race is one of the richest races of the season and Labonte will be able to use a Past Champion’s Provisional if needed

Stewart Donates Bulletproof Vests For Dogs
NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is donating bulletproof, stab-proof vests to police dogs in New Mexico and four other states. Stewart donated the money to provide 30 vests for the Indiana State Police K-9 unit and 10 for police dogs waiting for vests in Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina and Minnesota. Susie Jean of Socorro, N.M., requested a grant from the Tony Stewart Foundation for vests for the 14 dogs currently in the Indiana State Police unit. Stewart upped the amount to cover more vests upon learning the state police unit was expanding to 30 dogs. The vests cost $695 each, according to Jean’s Web site, meaning 40 vests would total nearly $28,000.

No third team for Stewart Hass in 2009: From Tony Stewart Live Monday night:
Question: “There are rumors of a third Cup car joining Stewart-Haas Racing for 2009. Is that true?”
Stewart: “That is not true. One of the guys asked if we were ever going to grow it to a four car team. And that is exactly what the plan will be eventually but right now we’re going to concentrate on getting these two Cup cars exactly where they need to be, contenders to win a championship each year before we expand.”(Sirius NASCAR Radio)(7-22-2008)

Obviously, with the support we get from Hendrick Motorsports there’s a possibility that we could maybe run a JR Motorsports car or possibly the #5 car in the Nationwide Series some races but haven’t got that far yet. Still trying to get everything organized and get acclimated to the new race team over there and still doing my full time job with the Home Depot team at Joe Gibbs Racing this summer. Could ‘3’ Be Gordon’s Magic Number in the Hooters 250?

Myrtle Beach, S.C.-Benny Gordon is looking his third win of the season and his third win at Jennerstown Speedway. If he can complete the trifectas in the Hooters 250 on Saturday, July 25, Gordon may be on the fast track to becoming the first Hooters Pro Cup driver in history to win four divisional titles.

“That’s the plan,” said Gordon, driver of the No. 66n Samuel Metals Ford. “Our team is really starting to come together at the right time.”

Even though Gordon didn’t pick up his first win until the last race out at Motor Mile, it wasn’t as though he was slumping.

It’s the F1 Race at Hockenheim!
by Carol Einarsson
CHEERS to Peter Windsor overall, running around the paddock (which isn’t the garage area when you’re watching F1), “To be precise, and you can never be precise with these weather forecasts, but they’re predicting 10% chance of rain.” That means 10% chance of a really amusing race. Don’t get me wrong, I like F1 racing, but F1 racing in the RAIN is just a whole different kind of fun.
