Track Trash – Deeetroit

In this posting, Racing Maniac reports all the Track Trash from Sunday’s Sprint Cup race from the rolling hills of Michigan…

Dads: Happy Fathers Day. Hope all you Dads had a good one. I tried to play golf this morning, only to find the usually empty course full of Dads (and a lot of Sons). Remind me never to try that again……. What a sloooow morning. But many of them will have the best of all worlds. They’ll play golf in the morning, then watch the US Open this afternoon.

Lawsuit: The recent lawsuit against NA$CAR again pits the weaker lone combatant against the huge corporation (with deeep pockets). One would’ve expected NA$CAR to be a little less edgy on this subject, but they must feel it’s gonna be all out war in the courtroom. It might be far less expensive for them to just bite the bullet and pay her off right now. They could do this amicably, but (of course), they’re gonna screw it up and drag everyone into a messy courtroom debate.

Mikey: Rumors were floating around that Mikey’s organization was in financial trouble. Mikey then said they were flat out untrue. Good for him. But usually, where there’s smoke, there just might be a small fire. Even though he has a financial partner, it wouldn’t surprise me if they later admitted the truth. And by the way, as with Mr. Pigtail, I’m of the same opinion that Mikey oughta put someone else in his seat. Owners ought to manage their teams, and not try to put the laps in for some stupid male chauvinistic reason.

Da Kid: Yep, KidKyle is still up to his old tricks. He spun Ron Hornaday out in the truck race, and got the full wrath from both Honaday and Happy. It won’t be long before he has every driver in the Truck, Busch and Cup series ready to take him out at a moment’s notice. Then he’ll probably go bawling to the NA$CAR trailer about being discriminated against on the track.

Da Race: My notes are few and far between, so let’s dispense with them for the most part. The only ones of consequence were: Gordo gets speeding ticket, JJ may have lost a low end gear or two, and da Biff ran over an air hose. OK, I guess we’ve covered the majority of the race, so let’s get on with the good stuff.

Fuel: I hate fuel races. Let me restate that: I HATE fuel races. However, since the situation panned out this way, I’ll make one small exception and acknowledge that this may have been a smart move. I’m not saying that Eury Jr. has a full plate of salami in front of him, but for once (in over 2 years) Jr. Nation had something to actually cheer about. And for deserving fans, they finally got their wish.

Fuel 2: Unfortunately, due to the eventual fuel race, the fastest cars may not have shown their true worth. A number of ‘em were in the top 10, but you’d never know it unless you watched the race (which was particularly hard to do, due to finals of the US Open). Let’s see……..

Jr. or Tiger….. Well, I stuck it out with Jr., and he rewarded me with a W. Correction: Jr. rewarded all Dads, and the rest of Jr. Nation, with an uplifting Sunday. Will he do a re-peat this year? Chances are pretty good that he will, but if he doesn’t, he’ll probably be in the top 5 and elbow his way to the top of the Playoffs.

Kudos: To da Kase for a steady game plan since the All Star race. To MattyBoy for another strong finish at MIS. To VickersVapoRub for some excitement early in the race. To TwoTonTony for quietly coming in 5th. And finally, to DavieRagan and JamieMac for solid finishes.
But again, some of this was jumbled due to the fuel race at the end.

Suggestion: Gordhead: dump yer crew chief (Lefarte) as soon as you can, and rejoin the brotherhood of racing……

Heaps of 3’s all over yer local National Guard unit (they really, really deserve it),

And KidKyle now says he won’t run the entire BuschNationwide season. Gee, I wonder why….

  • Fuel races are and have been a part of NASCAR for a long time! I enjoy seeing the strategies for track position and fuel mileage, its racing. Thats why the drivers have crew chiefs, to fiqure that stuff out, then relay it to the driver and work as a team to win races or have a solid finishes. And as far as Kyle goes, well I bet Coach Gibbs had a little talk to superboy and explained to him that he was first in point standings in Cup and a little focus was in order. If I was fortunate enough to be a Cup driver and I was first in points, that would be my only focus, but these new young drivers dont seem to get that, Kyle is just a flash in the old NASCAR pan, he had a good run but cant maintain his momentum because hes not focused on whats most important, the Cup Championship! Being rowdy just aint working for him anymore!
