FOX Ratings Up 5%
Going into Sunday’s Best Buy 400 at Dover, Fox’s 12 NASCAR Cup features were up an average of five percent — which the network said translates to an average of 9.65 million viewers per race, compared to 9.3 million last year. The key showdown might have been the Coca Cola 600 against ABC’s very highly promoted Indy 500 on Memorial Day weekend. Indy pulled about a 4.5 rating (some 7.5 million viewers); the 600 pulled a 4.7 (some 7.6 million). And those two races, which ran back-to-back, were the top two sports events of that TV weekend. Peak viewing for the 600 (in prime time Sunday) was 6.1, with nearly 10 million viewers. The downside for the season’s first four months: Fox said that the male 18-34 demographic is down seven percent and that the male 18-49 demographic is flat. The upside: Fox said that the male 25-54 demographic is up six percent.

Addington Named Best Crew Chief
Steve Addington, crew chief of the No. 18 Combos Toyota driven by Kyle Busch, has been named the WYPALL Wipers Crew Chief of the Race following Sunday’s Best Buy 400 at Dover International Speedway. The Addington-led team captured its fourth win of the season on Sunday after Busch raced near the front of the 43-car field for practically the entire afternoon. Busch battled with Carl Edwards for the top spot throughout the latter half of the race, but was able to steal the lead on Lap 237 after Addington summoned him in for a cycle of green-flag pit stops. The combination of Addington’s strategy and consistent 12-second pit stops by the crew eventually propelled Busch to victory at the acclaimed “Monster Mile”. In addition to the $1,000 check, the winning crew chief will receive signage to announce the win on their pit box the following week.

Villeneuve teams up with Green-Legault on Cup team UPDATE: a little crude but the La Presse [Canada in French] reported that former F-1/CART driver, Jacques Villeneuve who was teamed up with Bill Davis racing and started the season in ther #27 Toyota [attempting just the Daytona 500] has teamed up with former CART team owner Barry Green and promoter of the Grand Prix of Canada, Normand Legault. The team needs sponsorship and could allign itself with another Cup team, Ganassi Racing was mentioned.(Translated thru Google from La Presse)(6-3-2008)
UPDATE: Barry Green denies the information published by the daily newspaper La Presse saying that Villeneuve, himself and Normand Legault would have created a partnership to establish a team for Villeneuve to run in the Sprint Cup Series next year. “We have no intention to establish our own team within NASCAR. We are trying to find a primary sponsor for Jacques,” said Green to RDS. “The Sprint Cup Series is very competitive and establishing a new team doesn’t make much sense. We are rather trying to find a spot for Jacques within a good team through the help of sponsors.” The businessman admits however that Normand Legault is helping them with this project. “Normand is a long-time friend of Jacques Villeneuve and of mine and we are always organizing a little something together around the Grand Prix du Canada. Normand would very much like for Jacques to drive in NASCAR because he knows it’s his wish, even though there is much demand for him in Europe,” says Green.(Translated thru Google from rds.ca)(6-4-2008)

Haas team to appeal penalties: With severe penalties looming, Haas-CNC Motorsports has decided to appeal NASCAR’s ruling that the team’s cars were illegally altered for the May 25 Coca-Cola 600, sources told ESPN.com’s David Newton. NASCAR handed down its most severe penalties yet concerning alterations to its new car on May 28, when the crew chiefs and car chiefs for Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter were suspended six races apiece for tampering with the rear wings on their Chevrolets at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Additionally, crew chiefs Bootie Barker and Dave Skog were fined $100,000 each. Derick Jennings and Thomas Harris, the car chiefs, were not fined but their suspensions are unprecedented. All four must sit out until the July 12 race in Chicago, and are on probation through the end of the year. Riggs and Sauter were each docked 150 driver points, penalties that severely hurt the struggling teams. The cars are both fielded by Haas-CNC Motorsports, which was docked 150 owner points for each Chevrolet. Haas general manager Joe Custer is listed as the owner for Riggs’ #66, and Margaret Haas is listed as the owner of Sauter’s #77. Gene Haas, who actually owns the fledgling two-car team, began serving a two-year prison sentence for tax evasion in January. The team is widely believed to be for sale, and two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart has acknowledged he’s received an offer to buy the organization.(ESPN.com)(6-4-2008)

Ambrose completed 38 laps for a total of about 85 miles (136kms) and was conservatively in the top five cars at the end of the day, which was not officially recorded or timed. Ambrose will make his debut in NASCAR’s top ranks in a Little Debbie-backed Wood Brothers Ford Fusion at Sonoma on June 22. He will then run a further seven events for Wood Brothers at New Hampshire, Watkins Glen, Michigan, California, Dover, Texas and Phoenix. Been asked: how does #18-Kyle Busch’s 2008 Cup Season start compare to others [since the current points system started in 1975]? Busch’s start would rank 10th best with 2050 points. in 1977 Cale Yarborough had 2176 points and 6 wins [so he would have 2296 points using the extra 10 points winners get now per win], 2nd would be Ernie Irvan in 1994 at 2130 points after 13 races [adjusted to 2190 for three wins] and third best would be Dale Earnhardt in 1987 at 2119 [adjusted to 2239 for 6 wins]. Last seasonJeff Gordon led after 13 races with 2059 points and 3 wins.(6-3-2008)

What if I were to tell you that there’s a tested(by numerous corporate accounts), proven way that you could start using *today* to save 7-19%(that would be from 28 to 75 cents based on today’s $3.95/gal regular price) on your gas bill for filling up your car? And what if you could put money in your pocket by making this product available to others?

There is – and tens of thousands of Americans are using it right now to save money.

It’s been on the news, and there are countless videos on YouTube that prove it, including great pieces by FOX local stations in Dallas and Phoenix. However, surprisingly few people even know about it.

Kyle Busch
No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry
You’re racing in three different series and three different cities this weekend. Why put yourself through all that? What’s your motivation?
“That’s a good question. Some days I wonder the same thing. I’m just kidding. Really, it just comes down to the fact that I love to race. I want to race as much as I can and I want to win as much as I can. I love to compete and fortunately we can do that three times this weekend. It’s a lot tougher to do that this weekend with the trucks being in Texas, the Nationwide cars in Nashville and the Cup car in Pocono. But luckily we have the resources to make it happen. And honestly, it couldn’t work without the help of everyone involved. All three teams are so supportive and work so hard, so I definitely have to thank them for helping to make this happen. I just hope we can be competitive in every race and hopefully have a chance to pay those guys back with three trophies.”

Clements + Pocono = Success
LONG POND PA (6-2-08) – In four previous ARCA RE/MAX Series starts at Pocono Raceway, Jeremy Clements’s worst finish was 27th, a DNF in 2006. But outside of that, the Spartanburg, South Carolina driver’s Pocono track record is virtually unmatched.

In the three other Pocono starts, Clements has finished no worse than fourth, which happened in last year’s Pocono 200. In the other two, he was second and third. It would not require a rocket scientist to figure what would come next should he improve on his Pocono stat sheet.

The race slots in one week after the Canadian Tire Series visits Barrie (Ont.) Speedway and two weeks prior to the two-race western swing to SunValley Speedway in Vernon, B.C., and the Rexall Edmonton Indy, slated for July 19 and 26, respectively.

The legendary 2.459-mile road course at Mosport International Raceway scheduled for June 15 is the next event for the Canadian Tire Series.
