Bobby Labonte Celebrity Golf Classic a Continued Success - Over $100,000 Raised for Bobby Labonte Foundation: NASCAR champion Bobby Labonte and wife Donna hosted the fifth annual Bobby Labonte Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic on Tuesday, April 29 with over 100 participants taking part at the Ballantyne Resort Golf Course. The Golf Classic was preceded the night before by a dinner, silent and live auctions and a concert by country music artist Eric Church at the Ballantyne Resort Lodge. The activities ended with an awards luncheon Tuesday afternoon. All proceeds raised for the Bobby Labonte Foundation during the two days benefitted charities including the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The event was made successful by many of its sponsors including Coca-Cola, Dale Jarrett Foundation, Dollar General, Dunes Investments, Elite Displays, General Mills, NASCAR Foundation, Sprint, State Line Scrap Metal and Time Warner Cable. In addition, national celebrities including NASCAR legend Richard Petty, NASCAR star Brian Vickers, NFL star Terry Cousins, NBA star Brevin Knight and country music artists Eric Church and Trent Tomlinson donated their time and talents to make the dinner and tournament a success. “Donna and I can’t thank everyone who made the Golf Classic a success enough,” said Labonte. “We’re truly grateful to everyone who continues to make this event bigger each year. We know the bigger and better we can make the event, the more benefit to the charities. Our hope is to continue to grow this event. We have a special thanks to all the celebrities who took time out of there busy schedules to come and be a part of the activities. We’re already planning for 2009 and look forward to another five years of growing our relationships to help others.” Over $100,000 was raised for the Bobby Labonte Foundation through the tournament and auctions. One of the highlights of the auction included Ms. Lynda Petty, the wife of Richard, who bid on an autographed Brett Favre Jersey. The item was won by Ms. Petty who will place the jersey in the Richard Petty Museum. The Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre have been favorites of the entire Petty family throughout the years. About The Bobby Labonte Foundation: The Bobby Labonte Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed by Bobby Labonte in 2003. This organization is dedicated to providing aid for a variety of charities throughout North Carolina. In addition, Bobby has a great love for children and focuses on philanthropies that cater to children with special needs. - Breaking Limits Marketing, PRess Release

What is up with Jerry Nadeau? Pictures, posters and other keepsakes adorn a wall in Jerry Nadeau’s office. Helmets, diecast cars and T-shirts sit on shelves, untouched except by dust. Among this montage of memories, two framed items stand out. One is a photo of Nadeau’s car beside runner-up Dale Earnhardt’s black #3 moments after Nadeau had won the 2000 season finale at Atlanta. Earnhardt’s left hand juts out of his car, his index finger saluting Nadeau on his first and only NASCAR Winston Cup victory. “That is the ultimate picture,” Nadeau says with a widening grin. A head injury suffered five years ago today in a crash at Richmond International Raceway turned Nadeau’s ultra-focused life into tumult. Racing defined Nadeau, and even today, he still struggles to accept that he’ll never compete in NASCAR’s top series again. Richmond Goodyear Tire Notes: This is the same exact combination of left- and right-side tires that Goodyear brought for Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams to run at Phoenix three weeks ago . . . Nationwide teams also tested this set-up during an open test here in March . . . this is the first time teams have raced on this tire set-up at Richmond . . . in addition to Richmond and Phoenix, other NASCAR tracks at which this exact combination is scheduled to be run are New Hampshire, Milwaukee and Memphis . . . as on most NASCAR ovals one mile or less in length, teams will not run inner liners in their tires at Richmond. The estimated pit window is every 95-100 laps, based on fuel mileage.(Goodyear PR) See the full report, codes, pressures and more, see my Richmond Race Info page.(5-2-2008) www.jayski.com/next/2008/10rir2008.htm#goodyear

Final Talladega TV Ratings up: NASCAR on Fox got back on track last weekend with a strong 5.7/13 (9.0 million viewers) for Sprint Cup racing from Talladega. That’s a +6% gain over last year’s 5.4/14 and it marks the first time in a month that a FOX NASCAR race has enjoyed year-to-year ratings growth (only one race in the last month was actually down, two others were flat year-to-year). Sunday’s 5.7/13 also made the Talladega race the weekend’s highest-rated sports programming. For the season-to-date, NASCAR On FOX is now averaging a 6.3/13 (10.5 mill.), a +3% gain over last year’s 6.1/13 (10.2 mill.). Sunday’s Talladega coverage kicked off with an expanded pre-race show that posted a 3.0/8 (4.5 mill.) from 1pm until the 2:22pm/et green flag. The expanded pre-race show earned the same rating as last year’s 53 minute pre-race show.(FoxPR), see more about the TV Ratings on my 2008 TV Ratings page.(5-1-2008) www.jayski.com/pages/tvratings2008.htm

Sadler’s Autism Awareness Helmet Online Auction Begins Thurs, May 1 and ends May 19

EMPORIA, Va. — For the month of April, Elliott Sadler has worn a specially-designed Autism Awareness helmet at every track. Now, that very same helmet will belong to whoever wants it most.

A day after celebrating his 33rd birthday, Sadler placed the helmet up for auction on www.sadlerfoundation.org on Thursday, May 1 where bidding will remain open until May 19.

To raise funds and awareness, Sadler had the helmet designed with the colorful, jigsaw Autism puzzle pieces. During the Texas, Phoenix and Talladega races in April, the driver of the No. 19 Dodge wore the colorful concoction in competition. It was donated by Impact Racing and designed by Ryan Young of Indocil Art.

The awareness and auction are more than just the NASCAR driver being charitable – it’s personal.

“Helping to create awareness for autism is an extremely important cause for me,” Elliott Sadler said. “It hits really close to home because my niece, Halie, is autistic. The great Autism related charities we’ve worked with over the years offer many different programs and opportunities to help not only those suffering from this developmental disability, but also their families.

“It is a cause that I’ll do all I can to help raise money and awareness.

“We’re not just trying to raise money for the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation, we’re looking to educate people and raise more awareness about Autism.”

Once the auction concludes on May 19th, the winner bidder will receive the autographed helmet and a Certificate of Authenticity from Elliott Sadler on Elliott Sadler Enterprises letterhead.

Bid now, bid big - and help Autism.

This is expected to be one of the most exciting races of the 2008 season - its a night-time race this Friday on a .75 mile short-track” says D.J. Kennington. He continues, “We were racing in the 5th to 7th position at Talladega, Alabama last week, and had it not been for a blown tire towards the end of the race we were likely to have finished in the top 10. At speeds over 195 MPH even with a restrictor plate, we attracted a great deal of attention. In addition, we finished in the 25th position in the MC2 Energy Drink Dodge at the Corona Mexico 200 at Mexico City and we were one of the faster qualifying cars at Talladega, so things are really turning around for us!”Read more (MacDonald Motorsports) (05-01-08)

Kyle Busch Superstar: It brought back memories. It seemed like the finish was pre-ordained for some reason. It’s been that way all year. If there was any driver who got fired and came out smelling like a rose, it’s the little Busch.

NASCAR Top Ten Power Rankings: Talladega: Kyle Busch: Busch survived late charges from Juan Montoya, Jeff Gordon, and Denny Hamlin to win at Talladega, crossing the finish under caution as all hell broke loose behind him. After falling a lap down when he missed his pit stall on lap 64, Busch took the lead on lap 184 with help from Gordon, then powered to the finish with an extended push from the #42 Juicy Fruit Dodge of Montoya. Busch then victoriously took a bow atop his M&M’s Joe Gibbs Toyota.

Enter the Pressure Cooker: As we enter the second quarter of NASCAR racing, we have time to examine the picture that has presented itself. Imagine NASCAR as a meticulously planted and carefully tended garden. (Its fan’s choice on what food group each driver is placed in!) Now it is time to sort the goods from the overly ripe or still green.
