I’ve Got An (Im)Pounding Headache…by Heather Meyer ~ April 29th, 2008. Filed under: Misc. Columns. |
So pass the “rabbit relief” capsules…
Why is it, when there is an impound race, that the media jumps to the conclusion that the cars that have to make it in on time have a special qualifying set up?
Yes, these cars need to make the race in the first place, but don’t they need a decent finish too?
For the cars at Talladega the number 70 had engine trouble and the number 40 was in an accident on last lap.
Maybe these two cars pushed the limit to get in and not survive til the first caution or round of pit stops.
The number 21 pulled into the garage early in the race so they could put all the belts on and add lubricants needed to survive the race.
Not all of the cars needing to make the race went that far.
The number 78 qualified on the pole. Their only risk was leaving the alternator belt off. The first caution they put it on and ran a competitive race til they were involved in the last lap wreck.
So just because the teams are heading to Richmond (another impound race) this weekend, don’t assume they are using a special qualifying setup.
You know what they say about assuming….. some of those major media people do that enough!
