“As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.”

Bonfire! Hoodwinked

by Lonnie Bernarde ~ February 22nd, 2008. Filed under: Bonfire!.
I really don’t know what to say. It happens often when I speak because I just don’t talk much, but when it comes to writin’, I probably say too much.

For example, last week I could have went on some tangent about the Bud Shootout, the upcoming of the 50th running of the 500 or even about the weather up here in Wisconsin, but nope! Instead I decided to continue with the topic about CCB (Cracked Crystal Ball) and tell you how much it let me down again.

I could have left it as is, changed the subject, avoided the topic, played the political game and told you stuff you wanted to hear. Then you might have forgotten all about my little prognosticating glass bulb. But in being the “honorable” and newsworthy person that I am, I had to follow up with my article from the previous week. Even though it hurt to do so!

Its now a week later from THE Jinxin’ article and for the second week in a row it is imperative that I follow-up and be a “fair and balanced” writer. Therefore the subject of the day will be that deceiving little ball of glass again. I’m not sure what way to turn anymore as I always go out of the way for the monocle, but I continue getting humiliated.

I not only wiped the dust off of the critter, put brand new duct tape on the crack, but also gave it another one more last time chance. See what I mean, I treat it right! It was bad enough that CCB has let me down the last 5 years, but now I’m embarrassed that I’m sharing that information with the general public. You guys are general right? I hope so because then you would understand my frustrations when I gaze into that beady little eye with nothing but lies written all over it. As you can tell I’m frustrated with its misgivings and regularity of its dereliction of duty. I never even got that bent out of shape while I worked for the post office, though both seem to belong in the same category.

Sorry about that, I had to vent a little. You see, CCB promised me that my wife would be our champ this year and I would be the runner-up. Though I would end up humbled if she won, at least there would be peace in the Bernarde household for a few months. Though the season is only one race in and there are 35 to go, I once again am getting the feeling that CCB is trying to put me to shame. You guessed it! My wife Judy got last place at Daytona and that cost the household a few months rent (just kidding). Here I was hoping to buy each of the boys matching shoes with the winnings. But instead I’m digging out the tent and getting prepared for the worse when that mean little ol’ landlady comes a knockin’ for some green stuff.

Then to add insult to injury or maybe just to show me up again, CCB tells me that Jody would end up in last place by time Homestead is done. Instead its Jody who gets to buy his wife Trish and son Kyle brand spanking new shoes and he gets to sleep indoors throughout these long snow-covered below zero nights. He wins the 500! Don’t get me wrong, as I’m happy for him. He’s had some tough years lately though he deserved it for dumping Bobby as his favorite a few years ago for Newman; I am pleased to see him on top for a change. It’s just that I’m tired of CCB making a fool of me. Doesn’t CCB realize that I don’t need any help doing that? Just look at these articles for example. Until next week, keep the fire burning.
