After reading Monte Dutton’s article titled “Teammates Gift Wrap Jr.’s Win”, I ask myself, where in the heck has Dutton been the past few NASCAR seasons?
Junior overrated? Absolutely not!
Junior has a charisma that no other NASCAR driver has. From Wrangler to AMP and any product in between, Junior appeals to any and all age groups within and outside of NASCAR!
Junior did not leave DEI to seek fortune with Henderick. Heck, Junior has all the money he will ever need. Junior left DEI to be able to “just drive his race car and most importantly to win races!” With all of the family turmoil included in the family business at DEI, I certainly do not blame Junior for bolting….
Imagine being involved in a constant struggle with your step mother on what is the best way for Dale Sr.’s business to proceed. It’s not like Teresa has sat in the seat for 1000′s of laps each season. While SR was alive, he called the shots on the race cars and Junior listened and learned. The only thing that Teresa has on Junior is age and a small amount of wisdom that accompanies age.
As far as “Flying formation” goes, Dutton better get used to this sight, as no matter which track the Hendrick teammates are racing on, this formation will be utilized whenever possible for the good of the team! And so it should be. Isn’t this what a “Team” is all about? To produce the best possible results for all teammates included no matter which team member wins?
Camaraderie is the key ingredient to any team and will carry the entire team upwards within the standings. It is when teammates begin to “snub” their noses toward each other and other competitors that the team will fail miserably.
DEI hasn’t seen camaraderie since Mikey, Steve Park and Dale Jr. were teams mates. This successful story line was derailed when Steve suffered a life altering injury during the Darlington race in September of 2001…
Hendrick Motorsports thrives on camaraderie. Camaraderie cannot be purchased or mandated… it is just something that happens naturally between individuals.
No matter what Junior does, there will always be “naysayers” saying that this win was handed to him or that this championship was handed to him. The best part of all of this is Dale Jr. will remain true to himself, and truly not care what the press has to say about him or his family.
Prepare for take off, Junior and let the wins come naturally…
Until next time…

You know Sam is going to agree with you on this one!
Nice article!
See where Jr. is half way through the season,he has the best equipment that is available,so he cannot blame the car.
Great article, Robyn. I look forward to Junior figuratively putting his thumb in the eye of his detractors. I’m sorry we didn’t get to meet when I was in your area. Maybe in 2009.
Keep up the good work!

Why won’t people just let Jr. race. He could not do it at DEI, that was evident last year when he got all the junk. PLEASE LET HIM ALONE.hE HAS EARNED WHAT HE HAS. I think some are so envious, they just can’t accept that he is a racer.
He ran a good race, unfortunately Gordon was sandbagging behind Stewart so we really don’t know how good junior’s car really was.
You people that so much enjoy chewing on Dale Jr’s talent…are pathetic.
Let’s hope that you enjoy a steady diet of words, and I hope you get to eat lots of them ! HA !
