Our power was out last night for an hour or two… I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do anything this morning, but thankfully the juice came back on.
It seems like the Toyotas have found the juice in NASCAR Sprint Cup pre-season testing, both at Daytona and Las Vegas. Read more on that and see links to the speed charts in this edition of the Stock Car Gazette…

Some Las Vegas Day 2 testing notes: Trading places took on new meaning for Gillett Evernham Motorsports teammates #10-Patrick Carpentier and #9-Kasey Kahne Tuesday morning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We’ll see how it goes this afternoon, but it really helps me in the way I describe the car, Carpentier said of Kahnes driving comparison. If his car is really different, I’ll say, Maybe that’s what I need to have and get used to. I have to get a bit better car. He’s pretty nice to just say, Stop this test. Get in the car, says what he thinks about it. It’s always helpful. The Sprint Cup field were completing their second day of testing at Las Vegas, part of NASCAR Preseason Thunder, NASCARs annual preseason test sessions.(NASCAR PR)

Nationwide Series: Working to develop COT… Work continues on the Nationwide car of tomorrow program, with the four manufacturers helping to push up the timeline for development of the new car, Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash says. Another wind tunnel test is planned, Balash said, after the four manufacturers in the series - Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge and Toyota - have constructed “identity” pieces for the car. The chassis is based on the Sprint Cup COT, but the body is all new and likely to be based on “heritage” cars for each manufacturer - though Toyota will likely be the only car maker to stick with the same model as in Sprint Cup. “They’re all anxious to speed the process up, so we’re actually shortening the timeline that helps us get closer to locking some other things down that lets us move ahead with the rule book,” Balash said. “They all had pieces, gathered information and had to go back and do some work. They’ve done that work. They’re saying, “We can come back sooner than what we thought.” Balash said NASCAR’s plan is still to have the new car run the entire 2009 season, but officials from the sanctioning body have not formally announced the rollout. Bryan Silas still plans to fit a limited Craftsman Truck Series schedule into the mix. When March rolls around, Silas expects to compete in the American Commercial Lines 200, officially making his inaugural debut at the ever-fast Atlanta Motor Speedway. Since adding Jeff McClure to the Fast Track Racing organization during the off-season, Silas has been spending time with the devoted and talented crew chief to improve both of the team’s programs for the year. With Silas’s 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule not entirely etched in stone, the sophomore-bound ARCA driver did hint that the series can expect to see him around this year. “We haven’t actually determined how many races we will run. Kentucky Speedway Adjusts July Race Weekend Dates

Kentucky Speedway has adjusted its 2008 schedule and will now play host to its ARCA RE/MAX Series “Kentucky 150” and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series “Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers” events July 18 and 19. The events were originally scheduled July 11 and 12. Dates were changed to best accommodate NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series broadcast agreements with SPEED Channel. “This adjustment provides us a great opportunity to place our July ARCA RE/MAX Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events in an even stronger national spotlight as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will not compete that weekend. We thank Ford, the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA RE/MAX Series and SPEED Channel officials for partnering with us to help gain the maximum exposure for our July race events,” Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Rookie Brandon Kelley, Hixson Motorsports Pair For Daytona
SODDY DAISY, TN (1-29-08) - Late Model driver Brandon Kelley will be behind the wheel of the Wayne Hixson owned #23 Chevy Monte Carlo SS when the ARCA RE/MAX Series rolls into Daytona for the 45th ARCA 200 at Daytona. The native of Humble, Texas will be looking to make his first career start in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. His first step toward that goal was this past weekend, when he tested the car at Talladega Superspeedway, turning several heads as he posted competitive times in his first trip to a superspeedway.
“I have been racing for most of my life,” Kelley said while watching the team prepare the car Saturday morning for his first laps around the giant speed plant. “Starting on dirt bikes when I was about 6 years old, up through the ASA Late Models which I’ve run the last four years. I want to keep taking steps toward the top tier of racing, and the ARCA RE/MAX Series is the next step.”

SPEED’s Vegas Testing Shows: Where’s The Beef?
Like lots of fans I turned on the TV Tuesday night very excited to see a whole slew of COT cars on the big fast Las Vegas Motor Speedway. SPEED was on-hand to document the continuing testing and now had good weather and a fast track. Unfortunately, the coverage of the actual on-track activity was more than a little light.
